Same gesture after I used a water loaded brush on the soluble graphite I drew them with.

I went they ALOT Of paper doing these one minute gesture drawings of Nova.

Water makes the graphite much darker.

Hmm I didn’t have an after pic. Oops.

I think adding water brought them into focus.

I quite like the head on this one. A one minute scribble can seem to last along time when you are trying to draw a figure.

Then I got out the art graph carbon box. It’s released by water too. Well I added ultramarine blue but I think they are quite interesting.

Now I have to decide whether or not to paint them with color like this one.

I think her name is Alluria or close. So many LONG arms and legs. Well she had the usual number but they were all so long and slim and twisted around thru all the gesture poses and then the long pose. Eeekkk. I wonder what’s with how I flattened her bottom on the left side. Hmm easy to fix BUT duh what did I do.

The sketch. See her left leg had a curved bottom edge.

Grisaille layer of burnt umber and ultramarine with a fab of mineral violet. Should have added the mineral violet at the end. Also dabs of burnt sienna and peacock blue.

When you only have a couple of hours to paint a whole person doing grisaille takes too long to dry if you don’t have a hair dryer. Was lucky that she chose to turn her back to us.

It eliminated dealing with a face since there was plenty to deal with doing just the back view.

Love the shot of alizarin crimson across her bottom.

Colors used burnt umber, ultramarine, burnt sienna and peacock blue, hematite burnt scarlet and mineral violet.

Loving the HP fluid watercolor paper. I actually taped it down today and it looks flat as a flitter now that she’s dry and I used a lot of water in her.

Still have to finish the drape she’s sitting on. Cerulean Ann’s cobalt so far.

My granddaughter Livia loves to color.

I took a few minutes to draw her with a cretacolor Quattro pencil.

It has four different leads in it. Red blue yellow and green.

A fun pencil to use but sometimes you have to rotate it as you draw to get a dark or light color.

On a Sunday morning she’s usually ticked up next to me on the sofa while I watch CBS Sunday Mornings and Super Soul Sundays.

Novas gestures from Thursday. They were so dramatic. Each one would have made a lovely painting.

They were one minute long. And these are 19×22″ pieces of paper so a lot of territory to cover.

The last sketch reminds me of this one my Friend Ruth Pearl did last summer of a zaftig model.

Zaftig 140 lb HP Fluid 22×30″

Loved our model today. And am sad I didn’t get her name. She was fabulous. Just had a great glow of joy about her. I have never painted in 140 # hot press before so this was totally experimental.

Her gesture poses were phenomenal but that’s for tomorrow.

I tried doing a grisaille later but since it was the first time I wasn’t too sure of how to go about it on darker skin. I would use the same colors that I would end up painting her-peacock blue, burnt sienna, burnt umber, raw umber, cobalt and ultramarine.

The only other color I used was Holbein red orange.

Everybody’s favorite place to eat in Aiken. A good spot to celebrate life’s occasions like winning a ribbon at state art Show. I dragged my friend Tom along after Saturday life modeling while we were in Aiken. Then I drew him while we waited for food. The food is always good and the service is top notch.
