Candace Bohannon

The other half of the dynamic duo that taught us this weekend. What a sweet heart and so talented. Can’t wait to see them both again next time.

I drew both of their sketches when they were standing mere feet from me. I think Candace looks a bit older than she does in real life. She’s glowingly 7 months pregnant but that didn’t slow her down a bit.

Everytime I see that delicious nude she painted on the first page of her website I wish I had bought the one she brought to class to sell. It just glowed. That’s what tempera does when it’s complete and polished.

Well I have completed my order of pigments from Natural pigments Wonder if I will like stirring up my own paints?! Something new in art I haven’t tried. Also need to finish my painting and polish her. Maybe tomorrow.

If not when I return from Daufuskie. Margaret ready for bed. Xoxoxox

Julio Reyes

A undercover spy drawing if the teacher Sunday – Julio Reyes. Really a great class. They taught us everything they know about how to mix paint and prepare surfaces for egg tempera. He and Candace his wife poured their generous hearts into this class.

They gave us the biggest most detailed handout I have ever gotten in a class outside of college, provided all the materials but the painting panel continually going beyond what is normally done in any class I have taken. I highly recommend them. Too bad we don’t have a picture of the amazing paintings turned out in this class. Can’t wait to polish mine. Yes they taught us how to do that too with a piece of old silk scarf.

These are powdered pigments that I bought today at CityArt over in Columbia also known as Art Express on the internet. The owner Randy is great so I do like to buy from him when I can.

You mix these pigments with water and egg to make egg tempera. I couldn’t resist. Not quite the colors we used in class but they were there. Gamblins a great reliable company soooo I scooped them up. More about that tomorrow when I post Candace.

Day 2130 Arepa Mia

The hot new spot in Atlanta. One Decatur loved to Avondale Estates. Hmm where is the other?? Sweet Auburn Market don’t you love that name??! Features Venezuelan Street food. A great backstory on how the chef started her restaurant and yes she’s from Venezuela.

Food is very similar to Mexican food except the corn tacos are fried and similar in shape to pita bread stuffed to overflowing with yumminess.

Funky like a lot of good Atlanta area Hispanic restaurants. A nice spot to chill for lunch on a 100 degree sweat dripping day. You can also eat out side if you are brave.

Tip: I made some of the people too tall in the foreground so decided to shade in the dark windows of this old building with my pen. I also knew it would make the smaller figures pop out when I did this. Then I smeared the still damp ink with a tiny bit of water on my finger tip.

Interestingly enough u can still do this long after u have drawn it without drinking. Still will smear but doesn’t appear to lift when I watercolor it which I will sooner or later. The darker/heavier the ink the darker the smear will be of course.

Margaret who wants to try something else now that she has a Guayeanesa arepa literally under her belt.

Day 2123 Lazy front porch morning

Last day in Decatur being lazy on the front porch drinking tea and drawing lazy Lucy dog on the porch.

Lamy Ef to paint or not is the question.

Margaret on the last episode of stranger things. Too much excitement!! 😳😳😳😳xoxoxo

Day 2122 So many windows with great views

A sketch of the cute bungalow next door. To say it’s a cottage is a misnomer. It’s big. Really big. The roof is rolled like one on a British cottage. Peachy brick with yellow ochre trim.

The sketch in ink. Done with my Lamy vista with Noodler eelskin ink. Painted with a waterbrush. Did I say I am not fond of them at all. Hard to move color around. And I used my tiny tiny whiskey painter brush. It does work but rally ended by larger brushes.

Always wonder if these type sketches are urban sketches. Well qualify as urban sketches. I think so but do the powers that be?

Time to hop in the shower and then head home. Margaret sitting on a front porch that is just becoming too muggy. Aka temps a sticky 78. Xoxox

Day 2121 Painting Hippo Hopp in how many colors??

Really like this one now. Bright colorful. Just like Hippo Hop.

This one still needs something.

Not sure what but both look a lot better with color. At least to me.

Today we had a picnic and art In The park. A big hit with Liv and Henry. Livie kept on paintingfor quite a while after we got home.

Time to put the grandkids to bed and watch the last episode of Shameless which is my favorite tv show. LOVE the Gallaghers and their crazy lives.

Margaret heading home manana. Xoxoxoxo

Day 2119 Van Gogh did NOT commit suicide

Auvers Van Goghs Blue Church on the hill my version

But I knew that.

Auver from the Oise River Bridge. Ravouxs Auberge (Inn) where Van Gogh died on far left

This article based on a forensic analysis of his death says otherwise.

Van Goghs famous blue church

Of course I can’t get to my sketchbook and share a map of Auvers. It’s in Augusta and I am not.

Go on a Viking Seine River cruise in the winter and they will take you to Auvers since Monets Giverny near Normandy closes in October.

Margaret in Atlanta with the grandkids. Xoxoxox

Day 2095 Crud that keeps giving

Or is it just stopped up sinuses. Either way. Yucky. My bird drawing craze goes back at least six years or more. Some early ones.

Parking lot seagulls probably in a Strathmore mixed media. I draw better birds now. All these were drawn while watching the birds.

Chicken chasing Parrot rescue in Pigeon Forge Drawing pelicans before we eat at Key Largo – Buzzards Roost. May be there soon hurrah.

Key west ibis from the Key West Wildlife Rescue. Love

These guys. They magically show up in droves when Lloyd the bicycle tour leader comes because they know he has snacks for them.

Love the ibis hmm and the chickens and the parrots and hmm I love drawing birds. Parking lot seagulls were lots of fun too.

Margaret year Xoxoxoxo time for Endeavour.

Day 1893 BrEaKfaST

At New Moon. I know. Not my usual page but it’s fun. And I like it. That’s what counts right? It’s actually a journal page. My friend Tom and I blundered into the 10th Annual Hoofbeat Parade in downtown Aiken.

Only Aiken would have a horse parade with costumes.

I drew my late lunch at New Moon. Yummm. Their Downton mess Aiken style is sooo good. Pimento cheese which I always hated as a kid and grits and ham. Yummmy.

Anyway not what I intended to post. Been a crazy day.

Bought a new sofa at laZy boy to go with my chair. This sofa is one I actually thought about buying when I bought my current den sofa. Oopsey. Should have saved the $$$ and bought it.

I was going to draw at lazy boy but no wait time. Oh well. Lots of interesting things to draw in that place.

And old furniture listed on Facebook and Craigslist so hopefully gone soon. Fielding inquiries. It’s priced to move it out ASAP.

Margaret Xoxoxoxo putting her feet up and coloring in her book.

Day 1061 -how many more?! And a beach party!!

Still quite a few!!! 🤗We have no shortage of talking heads in this country. They offer great drawing practice. If you can pause your tv it even takes the pressure off of trying to draw them quickly.

And all they do is talk. And talk and talk.

And pass a lot of laws that half the country don’t like no matter which side you are on making the other half is unhappy!

The Decatur Businesses Beach Party in downtown Decatur on the square. Ponce de Leon became a giant beach!!  Free beach buckets, beach balls and balloons oh and washable tattoos for all!!

An amazing stilt walker. The kids had no idea how he could be that tall! Several people on top of each other was their best guess.

And there he goes legging it down the block or should I say stilting down the block?!

And a rare shot of the old Decatur Courthouse with sun on its face. It usually sits in the shade. Bytw this is now an art gallery.

Off to play with my grandkids. Hugs!!
