Day 176 sometimes disaster

And you start over.

Photograph to Painting with Vlad Yesileyev.

Everything I don’t want. I painted on the back of the last and it took so long to draw I didn’t want to start over drawing on the right side. Think I should have. This back of the Fabriano rough 300 just sucked up paint. No matter how dark it looked going on it always dried lighter.

I did end up drawing another on my old reliable Fluid. Only it’s not rough. More about that later.

The sketch and the photo

This one done in Waterlogue would have been better than mine.

First wash oops forgot abt the sunlit street. Sigh

Do you know what’s wrong with mine?? Too many hard edges nowhere near enough soft ones.

Sky wash done.

Coming along.

And now. The palms and the biker are too dominate too. Just an awful painting. What was I thinking of painting those palms on the right so dead black?! 😵😵😵

But I have started another. It already looks better than this one. Painting faster this time.

Margaret who might do something easy like sew or clean tomorrow. Xoxoxox

Day 2099 Key West Parking Lot Rooster

Key west parking lot rooster

He posed for me in front of the Lowes or was it Home Depot where he seemed to live in the parking lot. One gorgeous bird.

Fun to draw lines with it. Think next I will try a bird with my Escoda perlas to paint the bird and finish it with the sword brush.

First pass with the brush. No feet. They faded away somehow. And oh my he needs an eye. I left the eye and the beak off because they would have run into the red.

OH POO running out of room again. Guess I will have to delete some more pics sigh. What a pain.

Second stab at him. Get it it’s a sword brush. Wish I had not added yellow along the top of his head below the comb. I might go back and put some red over the yellow.

Loving the lines but those feet refuse to appear.

Added some more ground and. Ever can resist splatters. Also added beak and eye.

Here he is done. Except maybe add red under his comb?! Soon he will be flying off to a new home after I fix that yellow under his comb.

Charles Reid palette w Vlads Neutral tint. Strathmore watercolor paper 140#. Nice paper. Didn’t buckle at all.

Margaret back to watching Good Omens. Great show on amazon with David Tennant and Francis Dormand as God.

Day 2095 Crud that keeps giving

Or is it just stopped up sinuses. Either way. Yucky. My bird drawing craze goes back at least six years or more. Some early ones.

Parking lot seagulls probably in a Strathmore mixed media. I draw better birds now. All these were drawn while watching the birds.

Chicken chasing Parrot rescue in Pigeon Forge Drawing pelicans before we eat at Key Largo – Buzzards Roost. May be there soon hurrah.

Key west ibis from the Key West Wildlife Rescue. Love

These guys. They magically show up in droves when Lloyd the bicycle tour leader comes because they know he has snacks for them.

Love the ibis hmm and the chickens and the parrots and hmm I love drawing birds. Parking lot seagulls were lots of fun too.

Margaret year Xoxoxoxo time for Endeavour.

Day 1052 – Take a Hike Mr President Key West #3

Found a few more that I hadn’t posted. The Shark cruise. Guess they won’t be around. No clean water. It’s already pretty bad in the Gulf.

All this would be underwater.

And this fun whacky restaurant on the waterfront.

And my favorite wacky restaurant Blue Heaven.  Such delicious food and awesome chickens.  never tire of the crazy chickens in Key West.

And my other favorite spot Louie’s backyard eatting on the water enjoying delicious Caribbean breezes. All gone with global warming.

Sad that it would disappear.

My sis in law who doesn’t believe in global warming would be very said at Key Wests submergence beneath the waters. Here favorite spot in the world.

One of my favorites too.

Busy day. Off I go. Setting up for a flower painting. If only they stay alive long enough.

Day 348- Key West Dreaming Part Two

One of my favorite sketches. All things Key West. Chickens, motor scooters, Blue Heaven, palm tree, sea shells and a beachy drink. This was drawn in pencil and added to as inspiration hit starting with the scooter.

Zany celebrations abound in Key West. The dachshund parade which was around one square block followed by a chihuahua flash mob!! Next trip Hemongway look alike contest to celebrate his birthday. Can’t wait to sketch hairy old men and mustacheoed young men a la Hemingway.

Banyan trees fascinate me. One is so enormous there are shops inside it and a sidewalk.

A view down the street towards the Custom house I think. One of my fav sketches. Love that tall towering Palm.

A few more Key West sketches tomorrow.

Thanks for reading.

Day 347 – Key West Dreaming

We are off to Key West for fun and sketching in a few weeks. I know we are going to be eating at a lot of great restaurants.

Key West A sunny place for shady people!!

El Meson de Pepe. Lots of atmosphere but the margaritas were weak and the conch fritters rubber.

Blue Heaven aptly named.  The food is amazing. Atmosphere funky with loads of chickens who beg.

My review of Blue Heaven. A definite we shall return.

The double page spread.

If being wrapped in palms is cozy the Bistro on Duval is a must.  Food was ok. Great waitress.  Great atmosphere. Killer deserts.

Watercolor and ink in a moleskine landscape watercolor book.

Hopefully more tomorrow.

Thanks for reading!

Day 229 – A Few Bits and Bobs

Terribly cold here today and I cant stay home. Ten degrees with the wind chill this morning and it will be that bad tonite. Somebody send some warm air back.

Because I am busy today will post some more that I haven’t posted yet

.barnesandnoble

I drew this at the Starbucks at the local Barnes and Noble a few weeks ago.  I really need to go again.  You really begin to know alot about the people you sketch if you sit there and collect drawings like I did on this one.  The young girl was on her cell phone though I thought she looked a little suicidal with her hair in her face all dressed in black. I was relieved when I noticed she was on her cell phone.

The old guy was talking animatedly about taxes.  Groan…dont want to hear about taxes!!

hamptoninn

A very fast sketch that I drew while Jan checked out at the Hampton Inn in Valdosta.  I really like its chunkiness…almost an abstract. Always a favorite of mine it was NOT well received on Instagram but I still like it anyway!  This was sketched as I sat in the middle of a room of people eating breakfast busily walking by me checking out and getting coffee.  No one seemed to notice what I was up too…there are two more pages!!

Florida

This should have been in my Key West sketchbook. It started as a double page spread but I never finished the other page so it never got finished.  I dont know if you have ever driven from Atlanta to Key West but its a VERY long LONG trip!! I guess I will finish the other page when we go back this summer!!!

Starbucksatl

This well dressed older man was sketched at the Atlanta Starbucks in Edgewood Barnes and Noble. He had such long fingers.  I also have his hadn drawn somewhere else…Hands can give you fits and do require PRACTICE!!

Thanks for looking!!

Day 198 – Fixing Mistakes & a giveaway!!

To celebrate my 200th consecutive blog post and my new blog leave a like and a comment on my blog between now and Wednesday midnite. I will randomly pic three winners for a small original watercolor – one of the three Watercolors at the end of this blog post!!

Good luck!!

Now back to how I fixed my mistake.

I did this great sketch at Key West.

2015/01/img_7043.jpg

As usual I had to write on it. WHAT was I thinking?! The original lettering got lost in all those great Palm fronds. So brilliant me decided to try a red Tombow. Green and red complimentary colors so red letters would pop. Uh yes they did. They popped TOO much. Tried to black them out with my Pentel brush pen. Nope that wasn’t working either.

2015/01/img_7467.jpg

Then another brilliant thought use some gouache on the letters. Anything was better than that red. Well better yes but still NOT great. I got out an old accounting register that I have and decided to glue some ledger paper over the offending letters.

I tore it using a ruler. I like the rough edges. Glued it down. Painted the palms over it. Redid the letters and

ThAnK goodness it worked. Lapin who I have been following on Instagram uses ledger paper in his watercolor sketches. He’s right it paints just as well as watercolor paper.

I am pronouncing this one done.

Thanks for looking!!
