Day 1190 Those Birds

But it’s not the ones you thought.

Busy Day at the Feeder and as usual the squirrels are elbowing the birds out.

Really like the paint on this finch.

Before I painted it yellow. I sit on the den sofa and look out the sliding doors drawing the animals as they feed on the back porch.

Too bad the squirrels and the mocking bird is the same color. In retrospect it didn’t have to be that way. More purple on the bird would have made it contrast more.

Anyway it’s also fun to just draw the birds out back and not easy to do. But you learn the more you draw them all the better they look. Try it. It’s fun.

Day 1189 Time to post

I meant to post about noon today. And did I? Nope. have I painted?! Nope!

I started listening to YouTube videos and then for some reason I checked to see if there were Robert Burridge videos. OMG. I went down the proverbial rabbit hole.

This frog seems appropriate when talking about Robert Burridge. He would say yippie when painting. He might be the new Bob Ross.

Love this whacky dog. You know he spies a CAT as my dogs would say.

I just like this funny bird.

Back to Robert Burridge.

I watched this one first a Cheap Joes artist interview.

Then I looked him up on YouTube and found these.

And laughed my way through these two. https://youtu.be/3zj6yM6-gSI

And https://youtu.be/TOBF0EYqfW0

His one was super fun Best of Bob Blast I can’t decide if this one or the one about the trees is my favorite. He also has several dvds-Painting Figures, Loosen up and the Drippy Trees on amazon which you can rent for 1.99. Guess what I am going to do??! I may buy my favorites wit that gift card I have floating around.

Anyway back to Robert Burridge. Xoxoxox Margaret Hunt.

Day 1188 Class sketches

I take an Advanced Painting class at USC Aiken with Al Beyer. every Monday we have critique. The denizens of his audience hold fairly still so make good drawing subjects. I think this will be a series. Nancy and Alexis on the right.

This is Als last swan song class before he retires. Hes only been teaching it since 1980 or so and I think sketches of classmates might be a nice remembrance of the class.

My friend and wonderful counselor Alexis. She also gives a great critique.

Sorry for the late post. I have been out in search of washi tape. Then I made banana bread muffins for company that doesn’t arrive til next week. Oops.

Day 1187 It’s Saturday.

Well not really. It’s a little late because I got busy cleaning after the power came back on. Aka I almost forgot to post. After 1187 posts you would think I would not forget but some days I just get busy and do.

This pose was difficult. Foreshortening always is. I started over after first break because my foot was in the wrong spot.

No fixing the foot. So I started over.

I think the foot is still too long. For some reason I decided to draw one of the sketchers in the background of the original one. Some people liked it some didn’t. One thing the additional person does is keep u from noticing Ems foot is still too long too narrow. I tried adding a bit more Shadow to her foot to widen it. No idea if I was successful.

I even photoshopped the lady out to see if I like it better. I DON’T.

Once again Amy was to my left.

Bill was too my right. Notice how all our legs are different. I was between them. So the leg should have stuck our more and more as we went from left to right.

Jeremy Southerland’s lovely red conte crayon sketch. For sale on his website

Drew Murphy’s huge acrylic. He had it easy this week. We switched. I had the legs he had last week. Foreshortening caused everybody else problems but Drew Tom and Al.

Tom Needham all watercolor.

Al Beyer’s beautiful back.

Just remember Measure Measure Measure especially when there’s foreshortening. And remember Practice makes perfect. Keep on drawing! You will get there!!!

Margaret xoxoxox who isn’t watching the Super Bowl you can’t make me.

Day 1186 Off to draw

But in the meantime a couple of portraits for your consideration on this cold cold Saturday. My friend Marsha drawn recently over breakfast at Cracker Barrel our fav leisurely breakfast place. No we don’t have any cute cafes wonderful coffee shops or even a fabulous donut spot. Danny Gregory reading and talking about a book on Sketchbookskool club. And darn yes I bought the book. I have to quit watching them. I have bought several after watching these where he flips thru his collection of books about drawing. Some great ones. Ronald Searle, Felix Scheinberger, Tommy Kane, David Gentleman, Sarah Midda to name a few. Ttyl Margaret hot to draw. More wacky animals soon. Stayed up til midnight drawing a new flock. Xoxoxo

Day 1185 More Flights of Fancy

My new favorite. Wouldn’t want to run across him on a sidewalk. 🤗

My second favorite. Definitely a sassy fish.

Floating off to hmm wonder where she’s going. Some are so definitely female or male to me though I know the male bird is usually the fancy one.

Finally some lettering.

Like it when it’s a double page spread.

Perky and gorgeous or

A sad sack.

A fish whose background definitely needs work.

Ps Carla Sonheim also has a lot of how to videos on Vimeo.

Happy weekend. Go forth and find some sidewalk cracks to play with.

Margaret xoxoxox whose making two large pots of soup. Hmm wonder why!?

Party time!! A bit of whimsy with Carla Sonheim more on my website link in bio. #sidewalkcracks #carlasonheim #animals #birds #watercolor #watercolorpainting #ink #stillmanandbirn #whimsy #fantasy #stamps

Day 1184 A Bit of Whimsey

Mr Bird who needs a name stamped on his page.

Yesterday I wasn’t feeling well so I started watching YouTube videos. I looked at some on How to use Winsor Newton watercolor markers which I have picked up here and there on sale over the last two years.

I decided I should get them out and play with them while I wasted the day away moping on the den sofa. Then I remembered I had a sketchbook full of inked sidewalk crack animals. Perfect to color with the markers.

Tombows would be better if I can ever find my box of them wherever they have disappeared to.

My paints on a cookie sheet to minimize paint on the year old sofa I hope. No oopsies allowed. I also have a quilt under me.

I was having so much fun painting this fish despite the marker streaks I got out my 2 watercolor travel boxes and some sable paint brushes and curled up on the sofa to play.

A bird whose definitely make I think. He needs a name. I also have bags of old stamps that I decided to glue onto the pages to fill it up.

And Washi tape on some of the pages. I think I am going stamp definitely a lady on this one.

Sometimes they can be animals.

This is the book that gave me the ideas to draw sidewalk cracks.

I can see a chick sitting on a rock in this picture can’t you?!! Fun stuff.

Another ladybird.

Mr Kiwi. No name stamped yet. I may add flowers or more stuff to the background. Not sure. More is always better in my world.

Definitely a male bird is some kind.

Carla has a bunch of videos here on her site.

And a few are on YouTube so you can watch them on tv. https://youtu.be/L2yIBgGRFcY animals and paper dolls.

Ttyl Gotta go paint some more animals. Margaret xoxoxo
