Day 1843 Who knew!?

There was one last post unpublished from Key West. Well this is really Key Largo. We love love love to stop at Buzzards Roost both coming and going.

It marks the beginning and the end of our 125 mile drive on the Overseas Highway which connects all the Keys from Largo To Key West.

It includes the Seven Mile Bridge so named because it crosses 7 miles of water. The old one blown up in the Jamie Lee Curtis Arnold Scwhartznegger movie True Lies.

So our meal at Buzzards Roost is both a celebration of arrival in this sketch or one of sad exit back into the Florida mainland.

Watercolor pencils Lamy EF Stillman and Birn Alpha.

Margaret Xoxoxox catching up on the news.

Day 1842 Divinely Lickable

Best food I have eaten in maybe ever at the Corner Kitchen in Asheville. So good.

And the tiny Biltmore Estate agents house in Biltmore Village that is now the restaurant is so charming and adorable. Tiny rooms. A tiny stair up to the second floor dining rooms all two of them each maybe 8×10 – room for five tables and a waitress.

But the fireplace. Sooner or later I will sit in the other room and draw that darned tiled early 1900s fireplace.

Food is killer. Just THE best and well worth a drive to Asheville just to eat at the Corner Kitchen.

Margaret who should be at life modeling but whose freaking out over our show next month at the Aiken Center for the Arts. Think HUGE framing bill. Twenty plus paintings. Xoxoxox

Day 1841 Downtown lowdown

I think there’s a Facebook page for that.

Where I park my car when I get my hair cut downtown at the sixth hundred block of broad parking.

I. M. Pie the architect designed that weird temple triangle skylight covered addition on top of the tallest building the Lamar building I think.

Always like how the morning light hits the buildings and makes them glow.

Off to see the Mule with Clint Eastwood filmed here in Aigusta and also in my sons neighborhood in Decatur. His next door neighbor was the chicken wrangler for the movie. Aka he kept the chickens when they weren’t on set. He has a backyard full of wonderfully fluffy clucks.

Colors used – see above Watercolor pencils. Lamy Vista Noodler Eelskin Black stillman and birn alpha – almost full!!

Margaret xoxoxo where it will be 70 again today.

Day 1840 Clean Up! 🧹 🧼 ðŸ§½

Another drawing with people standing and sitting Aron d that I love. Just a few lines but they capture the people. Colored with faber castell Watercolor pencils. Lamy EF Noodler Eelskin Black stillman and Birn alpha almost full.

Thinking about putting the ladies on the right sitting at the table at Betsy’s yesterday that was empty.

Or maybe they would prefer one of the restaurants on Laurens with sunny tables?!

A good use for sketchbook drawings in finished art I think.

Why doesn’t Augusta have all these restaurants with sidewalk dining. Or maybe they aren’t all so close together?!

If it’s a reasonably warm sunny day I always chose outside tables.

Thought you might like to see what I did with that Christmas page. Always a sad day when you clean out the last of Christmas at least to me.

I journaled about Christmas under Henry’s bookmark that he made for me.

Fun adding the fold out pages. I will add washi tape to the bookmark when I dig it out.

I did the same thing with the sketch that Livie gave me on my Christmas stocking. It’s on the left side. And folds out too. This time so you can see her collaged pages. She will get washi tape too. Livie loves washi tape.

Day 1839 It’s Saturday

Work in progress. Macy 15×22″ on hot press fluid. She still needs a lot of work. I fiddled around painting her today. Scared of the hot press Paper perhaps??! Or just slow today?!

I was pleased to see that the fluid hot press dried flat because it was so waffly. Great paper.

Colors used

Cad red light cad mineral violet ultramarine pink burnt sienna peacock and cerulean for figure.

Background. Alizarin peacock mineral violet burnt sienna quin gold hookers. It will get at least one more layer over most of the background.

And something under the hand. First break forty minutes . Second break first washes when I left. She was very damp waffling the paper. Drew Murphy 2×3″ acrylic

Amy Lockhard Ness water soluble oils

Coach charcila. You knew that.

Rich Klein oil painting the studio

Bill Daniels oil w palette knife on metal

Zany Fred is back!! 🤗

Al Beyer oil

I know her name sadly but sadly it’s flown from My tired brain right now.

Drew and I are probably having a show at the Aiken Center for the Arts in February so I spent the afternoon hiking all over town taking photos.

Charlotte life’s to be petted

A nice couple walking their geese down Laurens. 😎 The geese love to be petted. They get excited and shiver. Soooo soft.

I want a Charlotte!! So does Zoe.

Sunny day Needs must.

Day 1838 – A Challenge

A challenge to draw a pile of the grandkids toys. I think I have said before that you better draw FAST because they might grab the toy. Oopsey. Then you are sunk.

I colored these with a pack of dollar general colored pencils I bought over the holidays. They worked very well for cheap pencils.

Sunset out my back door

Drawn with my Lamy Joy Ef. A yummy smooth drawing pen. Aka it doesn’t drag on the paper.

Reflected sunset. Always fascinated me that the sunset reflects all over the river.

And it fascinated me that it only last a few minutes. This is pretty just not glorious like the earlier one.

Margaret still feeling rotten bingeing Marie Kondo and youtube. She will get you up and cleaning.

https://youtu.be/anlMSrCZPqE. Don’t know if u watch YouTube. This wc video is very interesting. She has at least one more not watched yet.

Day 1837 Best Chinese in Augusta Ga

Hunans. Such good crispy egg rolls. Singapore noodles to sigh and die over loaded with amazing tiny sausage and shrimp and eggs. Yummmm. And the owners are so nice.

I hear they make a terrific Kung Pao Chicken too. And their moo goo Gai pan is delish.

Really like this sketch done with my Lamy EF. He was busy talking away while the woman was busy eating away and hopefully listening. He paid the bill. I Like all the wiggly lines. Don’t care I left off chair legs and the guys too tall. Just like it a lot.

Never got around to posting this one colored. So here it is. Another sketch I like. Just quirky enough like the Hunans but everything where it belongs.

Margaret watching an interesting true show about a woman who found her biological father like my half sister wants to do. Xoxoxoxo. Amazing things you find on ancestry.com.

Day 1836 Lo and Behold…

Right now Mona is my number one choice to enter in the Georgia Watercolor Show.

My Kehinde Wiley. He’s the guy who paints large oil portraits with fantastic figures backgrounds – Fields of Flowers etc. A good example of his work is the controversial Obama presidential portrait.

Mona last August

She’s also been waiting for a background since hmm since August!!

First wash of quin gold over all the flowers.

I didn’t use any masking fluid which a lot of people would have done. I just hate bothering with it.

This was how I left Mona last night. Three layers of quin gold hookers green and a dab of burnt sienna mix.

I debated with my friend Ruth Pearl about adding a wash of peacock Blue all over the background. It’s transparent so wouldn’t darken it a lot but add color to the oh so bright flowers.

I also had a scraggly edge problem which would not be good if I were the judge.

I used my flat synthetic Robert Simmons Sapphire brush to lift the edge. Lol and behold it started lifting very well. Gotta love fluid cold press paper. I realized I could spread the lifted green gold to color the flowers and make them recede a bit.

And that’s how I got here.

Margaret who needs to clean up the mess she made but first I better do my entry right?! Xoxoxo

Day 1835 On Deadline

Been painting backgrounds all day. I think Sams done. Well at least til tomorrow. I reserve the right to change my mind.

I have to enter something in the Georgia Watercolor Show and she’s looking like the one. Annie Jefferson 15×22″

Though if I can enter two this one is next. Really like her background better.

Both backgrounds are done the same way. Make puddles of yellow red green and blue. Paint the background. Let dry.

Repeat. Add some violet and burnt sienna.

Final layer had mineral violet cerulean and cobalt teal because they are opaque and will not play well on bottom layers.

Margaret off to shower xoxoxox
