I have a sweet friend who is always doing wonderful things for her friends like organizing a Downton Abbey tea party in a wonderful old Victorian Bnb in North Aigusta Rose Hill so I drew Downton Abbey for a thank you note for her. Right now it’s under a heavy book flattening out. I HOPE not that she will care.
Downton Abbey is a lot harder to draw than you would think. It took about an hour to draw and it’s only about 4×6″. For once I actually used a pencil before I inked it.
Painted it in layers. Quin gold with burnt sienna on the left half and layers of burnt sienna dioxzine purple and cerulean on the right side of the building also known as Highclere Castle. The cerulean made great greys on the building and drive.
Pen is an ultra fine uniball on superaquabee paper.
Collages background with black and white polka tissue paper some old ledger paper from the family business and some scrapbook paper.
Drew on it with brown ink and then slapped paint on. I really don’t feel like painting. Too busy worrying about loading up my car and driving home at noon. And then onto Daytona by bedtime. Believe it or not we made it. 900 miles later I am sitting on a sofa in Key West and already drawing the sights. Will share them soon.
Margaret who will be recovered soon and start painting xoxoxo
At chic fil a today. I stopped by for a salad and a deluge started so I decided to draw what was out their window.
I read a post at Bitter Southerner that a photographer was taking pics of what was outside at all the Waffle Houses from inside the Waffle House. I realized today you could do the same thing at restaurants like Chic Fil A so I have it a whirl.
I walked around the place looking at the views out the window. Settled on one and darned if a mother and son didn’t take it right when I started to head to the seat.
That left this view of the Mercedes dealership across the street. And duh I misspelled Mercedes. Oh well. Lettering done with a white pentel gel pen.
Discovered a bunch of quick sketches I did at wet paint a year or so ago when I pulled out what I thought was a new sketchbook.
A bunch of models were dressed as different rock stars and would hold poses for a minute or two on plinths through out Sacred Heart. They always scream draw me draw me.
Not sure who she was. Cindi Lauper perhaps?!
Lamy stillman and birn Zeta. These really needs some hits of paint.
Margaret off to Atlanta again. One more summer birthday and Cats at the Fox Theater. Xoxoxo
Of our dear friend and fabulous artist Rachel Miller who left this earth Sunday far too early. A sketch of her as our model at Dr Sketchys. Her she is as Marian the librarian. One of the founding members and first director of the Augusta Burlesque group Dirty South.
Rachel was a talented linguist with NSA fluently speaking multiple languages including French Libyan Somali and three others. Do you know to be an NSA linguist you have to be able to be fluent in a new language within six weeks! She was brilliant. She was retired Air Force, a gourmet cook and caterer, terrific watercolor artist, a twin, and above all beloved mother and wife. Those are just a few of her many talents.
She was a bright star in our lives and will be greatly missed by her legions of friends too.
My fast take on Rachel as Marian the Librarian. Probably a five minute sketch.
And here we are jamming it up at one of the Doctor Sketchys. The lovely Ilaina short me and outrageously fun Rachel.
Her memorial is tomorrow at 6.
from her husband Frank.
A memorial stop-on-by, share-your-Rachel-moment service for my wife Rachel M Miller will be held Wednesday, 3 July, starting at 6PM. Because some friends are still flying in, it will probably go beyond 8PM. It will be held at River Place Condominiums in the clubhouse. This is where her sister Jessica Yu lives and where we’ve had some memorable parties. There is no dress code so come as you are. Some are bringing food, some their own liquor to toast her, others want to share some of her paintings, but I’m sure all have a story.
There are two guest-access parking levels at River Place Condos. There’s also some parking lots nearby open to the public after hours.
Her candle burned at both ends it will not last the night but ah my friends she cast a lovely light. – My rewrite of The Edna St Vincent Millay poem.
You would be surprised to see what you can get drawn in line at a chic fil a. The line during lunch moves so slowly though they try their best to make it move quickly. Sooner or later I bet there will be a wreck between impatient customers waiting in those lines.
I was stopped in line when I drew the cars in roughly. And the stop sign the trees girl in the stand. That line took quite a while. As I was heading to home aka getting my food I was done.
Noodler brown Ink Lamy Ef hahnemuhle journal which is almost full.
I have been doing inktober aka 31 ink sketches. Question is do you make it to the finish line of one ink drawing a day?!!!
I threw one of those strips in my purse before I went to Costco. Sat down at the restaurant area and put my satchel purse up on the table to hide behind. Parking yourself somewhere with a good site line to streams of people is always a good idea when doing these.
Started drawing with my Namiki Fude pen-love it’s thick thin lines. I tried to finish it at Lowe’s today BUT huge trucks thought they needed to be close to the door and blocked my view. 🤨
Pretty soon I had a whole strip done. I ended up at the Walmart grocery store because they always have a good flow of people going in and out.
Be brave and go to Costco or sams and draw the herds of people that walk by. Lotsa fun.
Margaret xoxoxox hanging out with a friend who is heading back to Charleston tomorrow.
