Glamping on Daufuskie

Hmm it may not post but I am not sure it will work since reception is intermittent twitch your nose on the back deck and you might have a message go through.

You could hardly say we were camping even though amenities are few and far on Daufuskie. No street lights no grocery store but the house we stayed in was fabulous. Probably nicer than any of our houses. It sits on a defunct golf course that has has financial difficulties since the recession. More about the house later. Just walked in the door from a trip to Decatur.

Margaret putting her feet up. Where’s the wine? Xoxoxox

Hmm well that was a pain. Only tried off and on for a week to post. Finally unsnarled it. So annoying. Will try to do better this week. Hugs!

House boat living

Our big joke is that we can afford to live on a house boat in Key West. Would the three of us fit?! Nah but we can dream.

Free docking because they are just anchored out in the Cow Channel between Key West and Stock Island.

And we would sell

My paintings out of a tiny trailer there to pay for it. Well supplement our salaries. Lol. Of course these are so small we would each need our own. And where oh where would Zoe go potty?!!

Also after weathering the possibilities of having the wrath of Dorian on our heads we decided we might like higher drier land than Key West where the highest point is 18 feet!!! 🤪🤪🤪

Stillman and Birn Zeta Lamy Ef and pentel Brush pen lettering

Margaret who no doubt has made a large mess today learning to mix egg tempura from scratch. Will get back to you if this was a good idea or not. In Raleigh for a few more days. Xoxoxox

Williams Street

I turned the corner of Eaton Street onto Williams Street in Key West to see a church glowing in the sunlight surrounded by shimmering palm trees so I had to pull over and draw the scene quickly. Then a bicyclist joined the scene. What more could a girl ask for on a hot sunny day!?

Hmm I think I need to add a chicken or two don’t you?!

Lamy EF Stillman and Birn Zeta

Margaret in Raleigh where it’s going down to 40 tonite and Key West in December is going to feel fabulous!! Xoxoxo

PS went on a shopping trip to Jerry’s Artarama and bought a handprint journal. 6x 8 ish inches linen cover. Excited to see if the paper is as good as the larger one I was forced to buy at Cheap Joes because they don’t have Stillman and Burns available. I really liked the big one so today I bought a smaller one. I mean you can wipe the paper clean in my big one. Even after you paint it. 😳😳😳

Pumpkin time

Spent a lot of time at the pumpkin patches in the last week. This one was near Mast General store in Valle Crucis. LOVE the great barn with the over hang. Been meaning to paint it for years.

Handprint journal Lamy Joy pen for lettering.

Margaret off on the road again Thursday. Raleigh get out of the way cause here I come!! Xoxoxo

That other candy store

Is painted.

Fluid handprint journal. I had a lot of splatters on it from splattering trees. They wiped off. 😳

Now let’s see if the book dries flat. Did not like my last one but maybe they have improved?!

I used Fealing Lin’s palette colors but had to add Charles Reid’s fav chrome green and viridian as well as my fav Daniel Smith Green apatite. The hookers she uses is TOOO relentlessly green.

Cad red cad orange cad yellow burnt sienna and umber ultramarine American Journey turquoise. And a white pentel pen.

Margaret who has splatters everywhere. Even my phone and glasses. Xoxoxo

The other candy store

We call Cheap Joes art supply next to the classroom the Candy Store but Mast General has an enormous candy store at each of their locations but in Valle Crucis it has its own building. Danger danger is all I can say!! And no parents don’t want grandma or auntie bringing candy Miss Mike!!

Drawn at the tables of the Ham shoppe across the street while we enjoyed one of the Ham Shoppes Yummy sandwiches potato salad and their amazing fudge. Yea I ate the whole thing. Burp!

Lamy Ef Noodler Eelskin Handprint journal watercolor to come.

Margaret heading out on the last leg of her trip home soon. Thank goodness it’s cooled off in Augusta. High of 79 today. Yeahhh. Xoxoxo

Valle Crucis

When we are in Boone we always go to Valle Crucis a lovely secluded spot not far away.

Mast General store is there in an old building dating back to the 1800s chock a block full of inticements for tourons like us to buy. Everything from hiking boots baseball caps and t shirts to old fashioned gadgets like the Apple corers that slices cores and peels the apple with a turn of the handle.

I taught my friend Mike that you can sit in your car and sketch when the weather is cold or hot and still be comfy and get some work done.

Lamy Ef handprint journal. Watercolor soon. Like maybe tomorrow when I get home.

Margaret xoxoxo still in Charlotte where we frosted a Halloween house now eaten.

Another day another seascape

One of our jokes is that if we sold enough of my paintings we could afford to live in a house boat year round in Key West. There are houseboats of every kind on any piece of water off Key West. Free mooring.

Personally I would want a yellow house boat to contrast with the blue water. 🤣

Of course after our near Miss with Dorian maybe we don’t want to live there year round. I think winter months could be enough. I don’t like the heat of August or the no see ums that chewed us up everyday.

Hogfish Grill time

When in Key West a trip to Hogfish Grill for some Hogfish is ReQuIrED!! Yummm.

I no longer can count the meals of delicious hogfish I have eaten dockside at Hogfish Grill on Stock Island right before you drive onto the island of Key West.

It’s the island that they used to keep stock on because Key West has no room. The two islands are separated by a small channel that old timers used to swim the stock across in the days before the bridges.

This is the marina along side the dock. Think it’s called Peace Marina. On the other side of Hog Fish Grill is Gate harbor that American forces used to launch the Bay of Pigs Invasion of Cuba back in the 60s. As small as it is there are two armed force bases on Key West – navy and coast guard.

There’s a manatee in the water. Can you find it.

Back to the news. The gift that keeps giving. Margaret xoxoxox

Eaton Street #3

My favorite so far. Not sure if there’s another one.

Drawn on Fabriano rough press. Impossible to draw straight lines on it which I think caused its wonkiness which I like.

Margaret who needs a nap. This heat is ridiculous. Can’t wait to head to the mountains. Xoxoxoxo
