Day 992 Peggi Habets Class

At Nancy Couick’s Art Studio in Charlotte was just great. A very cerebral thought provoking class. Peggi imparts ALOT of knowledge in a jam packed four days.

A tiny little woman with a lot of knowledge and a definite joy in sharing what she knows.

Her next painting. She’s working on a series of ballet dancers for a show with three other artists. They start with a photo session.

After she decides on the photo  she then makes 3 small 5×7 ” black and white pencil studies.

More black and white studies.

She also uses the Pythagorean theorem to design her pictures as well as 2-3 color studies for her paintings. Colors combos might be complimentary colors analogous colors and tertiary colors.

Something I definitely need to work on.  Hers are immaculate. Mine not so much.

My color studies. It’s also a good place to work out design problems. I have another one of these but not painted it yet.

She also gets you to form a story for the painting. This is a large future color study  for a full sheet watercolor of Raisin who loves Frisian horses and owns several.

3×4′ acrylic

This is the same photograph painted as a large acrylic. I never quite finished it because it does not have a story. So now I can go back and fix this one. Yeah.

Day 988 Wow 13 more days

Til the big 1000!!

Since 13 is a mystics number surrounded by bad luck impending done a journal page on palm reading seems like an appropriate post.   The assignement this week was to completely cover a two page spread with masking tape. Then study a palm reading chart and react to that. I am not exactly a girl who believes in palm Reading so this was a little difficult for me.

I pondered the assignment of reading your palms for 4-5 days. Then I did all these pages in less than an hour.  I was flipping thru the old Bazaar magazine looking for images to collage on another page and found the red headlines. I thought perfect. I glued them on. The grey was a scrap from ripping out collage items for the other page. Perfect color.

I literally pulled a couple of pieces of somerset collage paper out of this heap and traced my hands and glued them down quickly.  Then I started scribbling with Prismacolor artstiks and gel pens.

Next I stamped some old Teesha Moore stamps that I had for years and never used. I still had the third page blank. I lettered with the paint pen and drew some arrows. Then it popped into my head to do an X-ray hand for the scar page-write down all your scars-because some scars are visible but some you can only see in an X-ray. Still have to journal those.

This is a WIP. It will change. I got some transparent purple ink to paint on it just not had time. And I have a list of things to still try out. Here are what I brain stormed.

Yellow gold aura. Lightening bolts

Light green on x ray hand thalo blue thinned on background

Outline letters in yellow?

Green glow

Heart Malagra

Anyway time to get going. Busy day.

A bit of fluff or?!

Really enjoying making these pages in my reclaimed Saks catalog – from my sons recycle bin. You can’t tell but there’s actual journaling under this page.

This is the first one I did.

I forgot to take photos of the process but it started out journaled on and then white and green and finally blue acrylic paint.

The cover

One of the pages in process.

Then I added collage elements. And Prismacolor art sticks and neocolor ii and hmm white paint pen. Some stamping. You name it it gets done to these pages. One of the things that makes it fun.

Go sign up for Juliana Coles awesome Book of the night class.

I think I like the graffiti like aspect of these pages. I do love to look at some interesting graffiti. I actually left this at life modeling in the art studio Saturday and nobody decided they needed it more than I did. Hmmm does that mean it was respected or they hated it.

Ttyl Margaret off to charlotte for a class in wc. Let the fun begin.

Day 979 -21 Days left

Till 1000. The goal is nigh!

Taking an online class in extreme journaling with Julianna Coles. All my questing for a book at goodwill, salvation army, thrift stores and in the garage where I found a forgotten stack of books I found the perfect book in my son’s recycle bin in Atlanta. It’s a heavy thick very slick Saks sales ad. Since it was trash I didn’t feel bad about altering it. It also had some nice photos of women in it.

Despite babysitting the grandchildren single handedly, lecturing to middle schoolers about art quilts aka show n tell and driving about four hundred miles I bounced out of bed to start the monster mash process this morning.

I worked on the cover since I did not like the big script Saks on the cover.

Oddest thing happened when I opened a huge old Bartletts to cut out poetry. I don’t think I even turned a page. It opened to a page that held a poem about “locking all your heart aches inside” and “hide it in your trunk” “will hide all your failures””will rise to meet you yet” and of course I cut them out and glued them on.

I don’t think it’s quite done the more I look at them. Bout maybe they are never done? They will tell me. Lots of fun.  Go sign up.

The first double page spread. Thinking it’s still too busy.

I painted stamped collages scribbled and painted and lettered and I could go on but it’s time for French. Acrylic paint caran dache neocolonial ii prismacolor paintstiks paint marker.

The books about the size of a piece of printer paper. Can’t wait for the next chapter.

Day 970 Avenging Angel

Happy St Patrick’s Day!! Time to wear the green.

Mixed media 15×22. 140# Kilimanjaro watercolor paper.

Got up at five am and started working on a not too great watercolor of Ilaina. The heads too small. And her beautiful long hair was pinned up.

I started journaling while listening to Robert Holden on Hay House. He’s the happiness guru. Good way to start your day.

Then I stamped her and collaged her.  The wings were scraps that just fell next to her shoulders. That’s a sign isn’t it that she wanted to be an angel?!

Next came the paint. On her eyes. Added hair. Scribbled on her with my Prismacolor art sticks. Bytw I went for the black one and ended up with the dark blue one.

This angel wants what she wants. Then I added the red Prismacolor.  Didn’t want her too precious as angels can be.

More paint. More scribbling. Back and forth. Scribbled on her face with a 4B pencil both writing and defining her face.

BOOM She was done. At least for now.  She might decide differently.

Ttyl. Off to the parade. 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

Day 969 Might be a trend.

Been working on this today for an online class I am taking. More political art.  I have never made political art in my life til lately.

Step one. Gluing down some figures  and journaling over them in pencil. Circling some of the words. Then stamping over that. I couldn’t find my stamps so I drew letters.

Collages layer.

Scribbling on it with Prismacolor art sticks.
Painting over it with cheap acrylic paint I. Bottles.

And I added some washi tape.

Ttyl. Got to clean up the mess I tossed all over the kitchen for some reason.  Stacks of paper scraps glue sticks and my apron to name a few things.

Ttyl. Collage is fun. Try it.

Day 968 Hmm I know I have something to post.

Number three does this mean it’s a series.  Still not colored because I am sitting in a dental chair. Eeeekkk. Woke up and thought about it last nite. How to color it. Leave it plain like the others or alter it. We shall see.

Options. Watercolor acrylic pens gel pens paint markers. We shall see. Oh and collage.

I spent most of the day working on these two in photoshop and test printing Sacred Heart on various papers. Oddly my big HP did as well as the Epson. Hmmm.

I want to stitch the big Mill together to get rid of the seam.  No success yet. Soon I hope. And the colors are off when I print. Waiting for one more cartridge for the epson which I know is archival. I did run a piece of watercolor paper thru the HP without a hiccup. Who knew you could do that?!

Ttyl

Margaret xoxoxo more photoshop and printing adventures to come.

Day 964 100 people in seven days Day SIX

Time to finish up those 100 people. In the meantime there’s always the tv to draw from.

I am completely absorbed by the unfolding spy whodunnit on Eachel Maddow every nite on MSNBC. I even take notes and draw some of the talking heads or players in this dramatic story. Last nite it was General Flynn who was working for the Turkish government to the tune of $500000 while he was head of our National Security.

I don’t think Robert Ludlum or John Le Carre could make this stuff up. Just crazy stuff going on.

And yesterday ALL the holdover Obama attorneys were fired and told to clear out by close of business. Usually they stay to finish up their cases and then leave. Not this time. And Hannity a tv talking head seems to have precipitated it. Hmmm.

The double page spread. Still have to find one more head to draw.

Colors used.  Quin coral and gold and burnt orange. Burnt umber and ultramarine and cerulean. A dab of orange.

Ttyl off to the flat track horse races in Aiken. No nekkid painting today. Going to miss my painting peeps.

Margaret xoxoxo who hopes it’s not freezing cold out today.

Day 962 its all about the Catsup!

Off drawing something somewhere today so thought I would share this new painting with you.

All about the Catsup based on a picture I took on my birthday at Flying Biscuit in Candler Park on McClendon in Atlanta. I had my camera propped on the counter which gave everything an odd angle.

I lightened and brightened the catsup and darkened the counter  so it would stand out. I added some Indian yellow to Quin red to make a lighter brighter catsup color. So far I like it.

Last Wednesday my friend Drew said I had made her look like she was drooling. Oops.  I hope I fixed that.

Colors I have been using Quin red Indian yellow ultramarine blue and thalo blue titanium white. Burnt umber. A liquitex light blue and flesh color and a tad bit of primary yellow. And that’s it.

 Here’s the picture.

Thanks for reading.

Day 957 It’s Saturday

One of my best so far I think. Al and Ruth said it is. So did Drew.

I decided to use my liquitex flesh as the darks with a little orange added to it. The lights are primary yellow flesh and white. The red is Quin red. I also used golden Indian yellow. The darkest darks are burnt umber and thalo blue.

Not quite done. Still need to paint out the hash marks on the left. Or at least not end the brown like that.

At the second break. The lighter dark is working well. Still a lot to do

And only half an hour left. Eek. After break will tackle the face and then the hands and whatever else I have time for.

First break. Forty minutes Of painting.

I started by carefully measuring how many heads wide and tall Emily was.  For Example how many heads down was her right hand. I also used plumb lines to line up things like her right shoulder with the right side of her face. Her left wrist w the left side of her face.

I also decided that though the shadows on her face were very heavy purple was too dark and looked a little grey. So decided to make the darks peach w white and red orange made from Indian yellow and Quin or pyrrole red. I started w pyrrole  red and ended with the Quin red.

Al Beyer’s lovely huge oil -3×4′ in an hour and a half! 😳

DrewMurphys large nude. Love the face. And the drape. Actually love the whole thing.

Iliana  Van Pelt oil. She’s growing an artist by leaps and bounds.

AC Daniels lovely transparent oil.

Marilyn Hartley’s lovely sketch w a little color.

Kathe Dennis great swirly conte crayon.

This one is hers too. Always love her lines all over the place.

Rachel Millers beautiful small watercolor. This girl is so talented.

Fred’s tough lady.

Tom Needham’s lovely watercolor.

A very young mans pencil sketch. Great job!!

Thanks for stopping by. Still worn out from the show which was a great success.
