Day 176 sometimes disaster

And you start over.

Photograph to Painting with Vlad Yesileyev.

Everything I don’t want. I painted on the back of the last and it took so long to draw I didn’t want to start over drawing on the right side. Think I should have. This back of the Fabriano rough 300 just sucked up paint. No matter how dark it looked going on it always dried lighter.

I did end up drawing another on my old reliable Fluid. Only it’s not rough. More about that later.

The sketch and the photo

This one done in Waterlogue would have been better than mine.

First wash oops forgot abt the sunlit street. Sigh

Do you know what’s wrong with mine?? Too many hard edges nowhere near enough soft ones.

Sky wash done.

Coming along.

And now. The palms and the biker are too dominate too. Just an awful painting. What was I thinking of painting those palms on the right so dead black?! 😵😵😵

But I have started another. It already looks better than this one. Painting faster this time.

Margaret who might do something easy like sew or clean tomorrow. Xoxoxox

Day 158 Update

The Finger Lakes Upstate NY

Fabriano 300# rough 15×22″Paint alongs with Vladislav Yesileyev

Done. I lost a lot of whites and can be almost impossible to get back.

Had fun drawing white lines on it with my white pentel gel pen. It easily lays down a really white covering line. If it’s not getting entered in a Watercolor Show doesn’t matter if it’s gouache or gel pen does it?! Yesterday. I added ALOT OF DARKS today and tried to finish the water. A few more windows and darker ones bigger shadows more shadows. Greyes the power pole down. Built a fence and a dock well sort of.

Done

Added more darks and some whites with my white pentel gel pen. The darks really make both of the paintings pop don’t you think!??

I think when it comes down to it I just like to draw with something. A pen is good a crayons works so does a dark juicy pencil.

Fabulous clouds tonite.

Day 156 Who is cutest?!

The birds and I are having a debate. Who do you think is cutest ?!

Think it’s actually Zoe. Drawn by my friend Ruth Pearl. ❤️❤️❤️

Oh things I learned today. Talked to the guy at a local ups store. They also take in USPS. He said it was like Christmas. Everyone is using the mail but they didn’t hire any extra to take care of all the extra business from Covid. Like Christmas or toilet paper there are slow downs in the supply chain.

Margaret watching Jacques Pépins Kitchen Essentials. Jam packed with how to info. Who doesn’t love a cute guy with a French accent! Tres charmante.

Day 147 always meant to draw

Vultures on the side of the road as they fed. Today was the day. You know when u like to draw birds any bird will do. Vultures aka Buzzards hold still longer as they either eat or HOPE to get a turn at dinner.

Did you know their heads are naked so nothings from their dinners will stick to them?!!

Nature is interesting isn’t it.

These sketches only took about ten minutes in my small Venezia sketchbook. 4×6″ Drawn with a fat juicy dark Derwent sketching pencil. Love those. Kinda fond of the Venezia too. It was too nice to use for quite a while. Almost full now.

Here’s to vultures cleaning one roadkill at a time. Very interesting to watch as one defends the dinner from the others who lurk in hopes of a taste or two.

Day 146 Drawing with Danny

Gregory on YouTube today st noon.

We did gratitude sketches. I did mine with tomboys. Coloring yellow and orange squares. Then used a fine tipped sharpie to draw in each one. And I got out my Namiki Fude to make heavier lines and my Caran dache neocolor iis to color with.

In reatrospect I wish I had just used the neocolor ii to color them. Tomboys are too much color to me.

Margaret whose knitting is growing. Xoxoxo

Day 145 Not been in the mood

To sketch lately. A couple of quick ones.

I may need a wardrobe revamp. Uniball pen and Caran dache neocolor ii crayons.

Drawing with David Allan Sibley on CBS Sunday Am

Finished I think. Maybe a dab of dark under the bridge. LOVED this old arches that was my dads. At least ten years old probably more like 20. Genuine antique arches. 14×20. No wonder people used to swear by it. But no more. New stuff has terrible sizing.

One this subject of sizing. Holbein actually makes sizing. Going to call Joes tomorrow and add it to my order.

Tonight’s sunset. Not bad. But the camera doesn’t do it justice.

Margaret who got stuck in YouTube land with David Dunlop. His videos are quite thought provoking. Love his series on Monet Cezanne. It aired about ten years ago but SCETV has them on again. I always learn something new when I watch his shows. He makes me want to get out my oils.

Day 145 A HMMM

Day 142 sometimes

Things just don’t work out.

This is a sketch that couldn’t get it together. I used all my bag of tricks my Namiki Fude to make better lines and colored it with my caran dache neocolor ii crayons. Then I sprayed it with a mister to activate the color. May have been a step too far.

Day 116 needs work

15×11″ rough Fabriano 300#Paint along with Vladislav Yesileyev

What do u think? Maybe I will work on it tomorrow. Been lasting around today because of my allergies flaring up which leave me feeling rotten the next day or two after I sneeze my brains out.

The first painting. Half sheet 15×22

There are actually two of these. The first one I wiped out with a sponge because I thought it got too dark. I don’t think I really like repainting these. Not sure why. Fun once twice nope?!!

I actually think the second one I posted would be easy to fix. Knock the cross walk stripes back. Fix that guys legs. Add the Irownwork back. Replayed the flowers. And it’s done. Maybe tomorrow?!

Margaret wishing she were somewhere in Paris eating at this restaurant with Luxembourg on the side of it.

Day 113 Miss Emily

Really miss my Aiken art friends and our lifemodeling sessions filled with paint and laughter. This is sweet Emily whose no doubt madly campaigning for Joe Biden right now.

I think this one might be done. Not sure. Looking at it. Not signed so not done right?!!
