Practice for a larger half sheet Flamingo. Also practice to make Shelley Pryors technique my own.

Usually pouring you mix the colors on this page. Can’t wait to try Linda Bakers approach but this one you mixed them in a cup, masked the figure and sprayed the sheet with a spray bottle then flooded it with three layers of color.
The masking was endless ruined a brush in the process and took a half an hour of hard running to get off but it’s definitely interesting to play with. Didn’t make a huge mess.
Colors used. Well only five or six. Inanthrodone blue dioxizine purple viridian ultramarine violet and quin gold for the flooding.
Cad yellow aureolin cobalt teal and a few oddball greens for the leaves and details. Thalo blue added to the mix of blues for the jar.
I actually used a 2 and a 4 Isabey kolinski painting these. I don’t know when I last used those brushes. An 8 is small for me!
Margaret xoxoxo who forgot to upload this yesterday. Oops.

When it starts to bubble and 1/2 C of mixture to eggs very slowly to temper them. Return all to the saucepan whisking constantly over medium low. When the sauce is thick and coats the back of a spoon remove from heat and stir in coconut. Cool to room temperature and turn into the crust. Chill for 2 hours. Whip cream (1/2 T powdered sugar) and spoon over pie.
Looking at this boat makes me smile. Love the silly birds on top. Clyde and co!
The photo. I was trolling YouTube this am and discovered an Ian Fennelly paint along and I thought way more fun than listening to NPR and doing the Aigusta National golf club.
And I was right. Always fun to listen to Ian natter on. This is an old sailboat on the river Dee in Cornwall. Something about the river isn’t there anymore just the marshes?!
Stage 1. The pen layout.
Stage 2. Drawing the boat and environs with a Tombow fine tip end. A number 65 I think.
Stage 3. Coloring the boat w tombows and fine liners.
Stage 4&5. Color added then some more marker detail. Also the silly gulls. Limited palette Ultramarine, Burnt sienna, Orange, green gold, white gouache.
Margaret who almost forgot to post. Xoxoxox
Paint along with Vladislav Yesileyev. And of course more work to do on it. Fun painting the palm trees though couldn’t get them dark enough the first time round.
Arches 280 cold press.
I know I am going to try to paint the roof grey. Will paint some yellow on a scrap and then paint colors over it to see what turns it grey like a metal roof. Thinking purple will. Maybe on the blue side. We shall see. Will posts my tests too.
The photo. Kind of nondescript right??! Really in Cortez FL but I have seen 100 like it in the low country.
Value sketch.
The sketch.
First wash
Second wash. Actually a lot lighter than the photo
Adding darks. Should be one shot but I never get them dark enough.
And more darks.
Done for now. Definitely needs work. Thinking lighten the small palm in the middle because the chair is the focal point NOT that palm.
Tomorrow right?!! Margaret xoxoxo
Finally. And I like it. Made me nervous darkening the sky and the foreground. But I like it. Very dramaticPaint along with Vladislav Yesileyev.
I painted a lot of the foreground with these brushes. That was fun. My acrylic paint brushes.
Green St, Key West 15×22″ Fabriano Rough
And started this one in an online class with Vlad Yesilesev all about how to pic photos. I know I learned a lot but right now too tired to tell you what I learned. The paper was out in the middle of the day for several hours so i have been behind all day.
The photo
Mind you this is suppose to be painted. Sigh. I think it took two hours to draw. Ridiculous. And I haven’t had time to do the value study.
Groan.
Off to bed. Margaret xoxoxo
A work in progress.
To chop it down or not to chop it down. What do you think? .
The sketch and then I forgot to take photos. Duh. Did not turn out the way I had envisioned but it’s growing on me. Like it better without the bikes.
Just some of the watercolor paint my dad left me. I have a lot more since I don’t buy a lot of Cheap Joes. Just alizarin and Andreas turquoise. Some of this paint is more than twenty years old and still soft and useable. Aka good paint.
BUT I am going to replace the Lukas paint with Cheap Joes. Good paint as opposed to crappy paint at a reasonable price. Cheaper than any other except Lukas which is nasty and chalky.
Spent the day sorting my own paint for an upcoming class. I did find quite a few tubes on her list.
Swore I was never buying more paint then I hit amazon. More paint coming. Oops!!
I mean I didn’t have the right colors for the Kathryn Giles class, you know?! And I have been on the search for a good Transparent yellow. She says she has one. We shall see. Besides I eat Cad yellow and cad yellow light like peanuts so I can always use more..
Back to Schitts Creek. Margaret xoxoxo
Actually Laguna Beach. Crystal Cove I think. 1/4 sheet Fabriano rough press. If this were key west there would be a chicken or two and maybe a bicycler.Paint along with Vladislav Yesileyev.
Wishing I were walking out these gates to the beach. Reminds me so much of Key West. This Covid needs to go away so we can GO again. I know first world problems. I have to stay home and paint instead of going and painting.
The photo
The value sketch
The drawing.
The first wash. Wild ride getting this done.
Second was. Love the background trees.
Lots of negative painting. That means painting around the shapes to make them pop.
Still needs something. I know. MORE darks and lots of them.
Here it is again done.
Nite nite. Off to bed. Painted til 7 walked two miles. Did the power plate a half an hour. Zzzzzz
another paint along with Vlad tomorrow. Off to Barcelona.
Margaret Xoxoxo
This started out to be a palm tree practice then bougainvillea and flame tree and gradually I added buildings, Pepe’s, a rooster, people, and a bike or two. The essence of the big more formal painting I that I started Wednesday.
I think it’s done. I rather like the Arches 140 lb rough paper it’s painted on but will have to use up my stack of Fabriano rough before I buy more. The paper behaved very well staying flat. Hurrah.
Back when the palms wet Transparent. I fixed that. 😫
I had to add the sky. What’s a Key West painting without the gorgeous tropical sky?!
Sky added but I decided the palms were too bright and fighting with the buildings which were the focal point.
Watching/Listening to 100 Foot Journey today Marguerite said this about her pots but it’s applicable to drawing and painting.
Good movie if you haven’t seen it.
Margaret ready for Father Brown. Xoxoxo
