Day 1010 Bits and Bobs

I painted this a while back and never got around to posting him.  An older gentleman enjoying his kindle or his iPad in the window of the Inner Bean. I have painted that light several times. It alway eludes me. MAybe tomorrow when I meet Marsha there forBrunch?!

Ted Nuttalls transparent palette.

That light. I coated it with Quin gold first. Then cerulean.  Probably the color that got me into trouble. It’s opaque.  I think the shadow is Daniel Smith piemonite with ultramarine blue. Love piemonite.

Two days til Boone!!! And Charles Reid.  Ttyl Margaret xoxoxo

Day 927  Inner Bean again

But I was drawing lunch not drawing the restaurant. First piece of cake from Inner Bean in months. I used to eat cake there a lot. Not since I have lost 30 lb.

Worst thing about drawing your food is that you can’t eat it til you draw it. I got

The delicious strawberry cake first. Before the salad. And I was hungry. I resisted. Did I say Inner Bean is famous for its cake?   They won Best Cake in Augusta recently. The cake is Just THE  best.

Margaret with a busy week. Getting ready for My solo show next week. Xoxox

Day 905 – the Bean

Everybody’s favorite place to eat lunch in Augusta or for a coffee or even better some of their amazing cake. They give you a slab of home made cake for $4 or $4.50. Today I had their Tuscan Bean Soup which was delicious. A big bowl and some delicious ice tea $5. A good deal.

I don’t think I have ever eaten anything that was not delicious at the bean as we call it. Their coffee is from that other fabulous cafe that I drew a couple of weeks ago The Dancing Goats in Decatur.

Painted in my new STillman and Birn Zeta.  Drawn with a Lamy Ef loaded with Lexington Grey and painted with Ted Nuttalls transparent colors.

Sketchbookskool Homework.

Draw some textured objects. I might have gotten carried away but have had these on my art table for a while to draw. I can check them off my list now right?!

Pens used Staedler .01, carbon Platinum pen w carbon platinum black ink and a Pitt calligraphy pen which I soon abandoned because it was too dark to me.

Stillman and Birn mixed Zeta journal.

Margaret off to bed early after two hours at the gym and walking a couple of miles. Color me tahred. Xoxoxo

Day 897 More Urban Sketching or the Best Coffee in Georgia

I drew this the other day when I met Nellie Brannan for coffee at the Dancing Goats in Decatur. It’s Decatur’s favorite coffee shop. Their coffee is sold in Augusta at Augusta’s favorite coffee shop the Inner Bean.

I drew the brave people sitting out on the sidewalk in front of the dancing Goats as they walked thru the scene.  There was alot of coming and going.

Colors used cerulean quin gold cad orange cad red hookers green ultramarine blue quin coral and marine blue.  Stillman and Birn zeta Lamy Safari Lexington Grey

Sketchbookskool homework. Draw a still life with thick and thin lines. I used a tombow instead of a fine and a thick sharpie.

I really didn’t like the line drawing so I got out a watercolor brush and some water and let the tombow bleed. Then I added some water to the shadows and picked up the grey to splatter it. Like it a lot better now.

Thanks for checking by.

Day 452 More Coloring Book Painting

Still watching the river!! Hoping everyone is staying high and dry during this monsoon.

Inktober 5 – Ladies at the Bean  loved this group as they sat and chatted away a rainy morning. Hmm well I think the lady on the left is great but the lady on the right is not bad either. Lol

The left lady had the greatest expressions and was birdlike in the tilt of her head.

Drawn with my Noodler Konrad and Platinum Carbon Black ink.

Jan – love the wet and wet colors in the quilt which is cobalt cerulean Winsor yellow and Quin gold. Skin muddied Quin coral and yellow ochre. Hair burnt sienna and inathradone.

The Yakker  or is it The Smoker?! Can u find her cigarette??? How she managed to keep that cigarette in her mouth while she talked like crazy I have NO idea. She was so entertaining to watch. She was larger than life in every way from her huge purse to her ample proportions.

Skin is burnt sienna or Quin sienna.  Not sure which. Quin red shirt.  Hair is inathradone and burnt umber. Cigarette is white gouache.

Day 444 Hanging a Show

A Friend forgot she signed up for a show at our favorite cafe. And she knew someone with lots of art stockpiled so she asked me to do the show. We spent all day today wrapping and hanging and pricing the show. Took ALL day. Thank goodness it is done.

Sorry the photos are so bad but it’s a rainy day and the lighting in the Bean is not the best. I also drank TWO cups of expresso to keep caffeinated and climbing up that ladder to hang paintings.

If I climbed it once I know I climbed it 30 times!!!

There’s a wide range of art- all shapes and sizes and all prices. The strips are also for sale ranging in price from $150 -$295 for the longest one. It’s almost 100 inches long. That’s only $2.95 an inch lol!!

So why is it hung like wash on a line?! WHY NOT?!  We thought it would be fun. And what could be more arty than hanging art with binders clips of every shape and size.

Some come on out and buy some art for Christmas presents or just because!!

Thanks for reading.

Day 418 – Inner Bean

I really want to write on the background wall of this but haven’t yet because I like it as is. However journaling on  it seems like a good idea. What do you think?!

This was sketched at the Inner Beab in Augusta Friday. Remember I told you you can get in trouble if you don’t plan those lines. Can you find my faux pas?!  Hmm I could turn it into to a backpack on the girl couldn’t I?!

Colors used. Almost every color I have !!

  Thanks for reading.

Day 412 People time

SOLD!!!

I drew this the other day when we had breakfast at the inner bean. A lot of times when I try to draw people like this I end up with a mess. For once I started in the front and drew to the back.

Today sketching at Costco I  did the opposite. A bit of a mess.

Since these are generally drawn in ink you don’t get a do over when the figures over lap shelves. If you start in the front not such a problem.  I started with the left bottom corner.

Contrast was a problem too. All the figures were blending into each other on the left.

I converted it to black and white. With the color gone it was easy to see where the figures wee blending in. Bottom left was especially bad.

I uped the contrast aka value which I think improved life at the bean.

Just remember my chickies it’s all about value.

An old page of dads on how to draw people I thought u might find interesting.

Thanks for reading.

Day 389 Drawing Duval Street

Duval Street – $150 app 8×40″ Heavy Stonehenge paper

I actually drew this one after I drew the chickens. I was so hot I sat in the Starbucks on Duval drawing passersby.

I tried to give them a tropical feel. Crowds on Duval do not look like an Atlanta crowd or the denizens of my favorite cafe Inner Bean or customers running into Earthfare.

Tank tops tshirts short shorts sunglasses and flip flops are the order of the day. Chickens  use the crosswalks and palms line the road.

I tried to use bright tropical colors to give a tropical feel to this long strip.

It was not the best vantage point to see people to sketch quickly. They went by TOO quickly. Mere seconds.
TIP:  This was drawn with a Pentel brush pen. I actually have two brush pens because drawing these strips use up the ink.  Hate to run out while drawing a strip.

I generally start with the shoulders and next the head.

Thanks for reading.
