Day 629 – Henry Time

This weekend my sister Jan and I tagged teamed my sweet grandchildren Henry and Livia. Henry slowed down enough for me to sketch him watching Care Bears and playing with his cars his gramy bought him at Mc Donald’s and Publixs.

His dad asked me if I bought him a car at Publixs and I said Yes of course he asked for one and a rabbit for his sister and flowers for his mom but we knew daddy didn’t want anything but that ham we cooked!!

They also went to the zoo. When I asked Henry what his favorite part of the zoo was he told me you Gramy. What a kid. Lol.

Last a bit of ink fun with my Kuretake brush pen. I just like the quote.  And it’s true. Hard to be perfect.

I got the quote from the strathmore art on line sketchbook Art Ninja Graham Smiths class.  Check it out. It’s free.  I wish I drew glad as well as he does. Here is his website

Day 628 – Costco Love!

Urban sketching at Costco. And NO I did not eat a hotdog when I drew this. I usually do though. Probably good snacks this day whxib everybody knows are calorie free right?!

I did hide in the corner behind my purse which is of course big enough to carry my sketchbook and pants.

Tip: when you take the grandchildren to the zoo you don’t want your bevy purse loaded with sketching stuff when you pick up a 45 lb kid to look at the snakes Be sure to take your over the shoulder sketch purse with sketching stuff and the other important thing MONEY for the gift shop train and carousel!! 😋

These people were drawn as we all stood in the return line. I love to buy stuff and bring it back to Costco. They ALWAYS take stuff bought there back no questions other than can I Have your members card please. I do LOVE Costco!!

Off to class. Need to go by Costco and fill up. Gas is always 20-25 cents cheaper!! And Booking a trip to Paris and maybe Lindon and Dublin via Iceland. No time to list colors but I did use the usual ones.

Day 622 The Major

30×40″ acrylic
Is done. What else can I say. Hmm should I add at least for today?! 😊 you never know what I might decide needs fixing when I look at him tomorrow BUT I really do think he’s done.

He will be entered in the big show in Anderson SC next month so let’s hope he doesn’t talk to me anymore.

Detail of his hands

Tip:The smallest brush he was painted with was a 1″ hog bristle filbert. Impossible to get to picky with these brushes. He was also painted with a three inch house painting brush.

The only work done with a small brush was the original  sketch. It was done with a 1/4″ Winsor Newton monarch filbert. I do love those brushes.

I also finished her up yesterday but she reserves the right to talk to me and say MORE!!

Day 582 – A little reworking

Don’t forget to leave a comment for the 600 days drawing. Hmm is that a pun?!
I decided that all that green blue  I had painted on her was awful looking so I started painting.

That raccoon look was NOT good. Edges needed softening ALOT.

I added a lot of burnt sienna for shadows and some nickel azo gold with pyrrole red and white for flesh tone. I also added a dark grey with sand in it to the background and then washed it with a thinned white.

And softened edges. In case you don’t know. What that means it means that the edges are blurred aka softened like around her mouth and her eye.

At the last minute I realized her tight shoulder was too high so I took about half an inch of the top and a bit off the side to round it some more.

For the moment she’s done but you never know. Sometimes when you look at them you realize more work is required.

Thanks for reading.

Day 570 – A quickie

Thought that would get your attention.  I shop too much at Costco and these are just Some of the things that I bought on two trips- one to pick up croissants and one to pick up those luscious new crop strawberries.

I also bought a dog bed and four pounds of butter. 😋

Two friends and I were doing lunch when we started talking about we had on jeans we had bought at Costco the Amanda by Gloria Vanderbilt.

And of course we had a good laugh about what else we were wearing that’s as bought at Costco like my boots.

Next time we need to do lunch at Costco aka sample heaven in the afternoon.  Hard to resist those impulse purchases.

Yesthe Florida strawberries are in!!

I may go back and paint the background yellow. I meant too but got carried away on a map for my sons weddings save the date in September.

Colors. The letters started out as cobalt but were too pale so I added Inathrodone to them.  Cad red on strawberries.  All the green is hookers  w cobalt. Same  on the hydrangea and strawberry tops. Blacks are Inathrodone and burnt umber or burnt sienna.

Currently dyeing a mouse brown scarf red.

Right now it’s a nice rust but going to dunk it in food coloring since I already used all the koolaid. It’s soaking in vinegar and water for the next go round. If that doesn’t work back to Krogers for more tropical punch.

Day 441 – More You know What!

   Adam Harris Thompson Group

Arts in the Heart is a BIG event in Augusta. Downtown closes down for several blocks. There were at least four stages with acts, tents for almost every nationality selling food and endless arts and crafters selling their wares.

  The sketch

One of the band members named Michael I think. Played a great lead guitar.

Adam Harris Thompson Group is a great blues band. We really enjoyed their music.

I actually drew the Adam Harris Thompson Group three times. This was the first time. There was an interesting group watching the act on stage which I had already drawn. I decided to draw them. Who knew it was the next group?!!

I drew a lot of the audience too. And then drew the group again which is the first sketch. There is one more drawing of the group which I will post tomorrow.

Tomorrow more u know what👀!!

Day 436 – Ben

Ben – watercolor on crescent watercolor board 28″  x 20″ SOLD!!

This painting has taken about three weeks working on it off and on.

Here are a few in progress photos of it. I use my cell phone to stand away from the painting and judge it’s progress.
His legs seem a bit short but I have measured and measured against the original photo and they are right. The photo is just taken at an off angle

 Thanks for reading!!

Margaret xxx off to sketch live at Arts in the Heart.  Eeeekkkk!!!

Day 433- WIP Savannah Riverwalk

pleased with progress off to class so moh later as my grandson Henry says.

Calling it done.  My weapons of choice were an Isabey #2 squirrel mop and a Lamy Vista fine point with an ink converter lapsed wit carbon platinum black ink. Mop is from Cheap Joes expensive but worth it and cheaper than Dick Blick. I got the pen and converter from Amazon but the ink from Goulet. The Amazon ink was NOT waterproof though it appeared to be the same ink. Another good waterproof ink is Noodlers Lexington Grey from Sam Flaxs Atlanta and de Artrementis DOCUMENT Brown from Goulet pens.

Colors used cerulean and cobalt sky. Aurelion yellow, Quinn gold in roof. burnt sienna quin burnt orange inathradone for the Sphinx. Quin gold hookers green olive green and green hematite with burnt umber in greenery. Piemonte and cobalt blue shadows on buildings and sidewalks.

Day 421 – A Little Urban Sketching

at Fitch and Fifth in Surrey Center in Augusta Ga. A room full of people and I am waiting to eat. What else would I do?!

Scenes like this really call my name to get out my Noodler Ahab or my brush pen and get busy drawing.

I do usually paint these later because I don’t want to impose on whoever I am with too much.

TIP: Oh. Almost forgot. The ledger strip down the side.  Whenever you see that I can promise you there is something I really didn’t like about the sketch.  In this case it was a waiter running a bill. Usually a figure on the side is nice but this one was not!! What to do?! Glue some ledger paper down and record our dinner.
Ps it was delicious. My trout was perfect. I forgot their five stars. Oops. Will fix that!!! Or maybe not. Really like it just the way it is.

And you thought the body was round?! Enjoy. One more page left!!

Thanks for reading.

Day 418 – Inner Bean

I really want to write on the background wall of this but haven’t yet because I like it as is. However journaling about it seems like a good idea. What do you think?!

This was sketched at the Inner Bean in Augusta Friday. Remember I told you you can get in trouble if you don’t plan those lines. Can you find my faux pas?!  Hmm I could turn it into to a backpack on the girl couldn’t I?!

Colors used. Almost every color I have !!

  Thanks for reading.
