Day 1695 Summer Snow WIP?!!

Summer Snow – Fluid 140# cp paper 15×22″

Sorry for the late post. Been working on this when I wasn’t busy walking πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ 🚢 πŸ€—!! My feet are tired.

What I started off drawing.

I drew it with a 2 B Derwent sketching pencil. Very soft. Before I started painting I erased it to lighten the pencil marks.

Here we go. Decided the background was too light.

Kind of wish I had left it.

But I thought the background was too close in tone to the flowers. No idea why I thought that but I did. So I darkened it. Hmmm. Well those flowers really show now. And they look cut out. Not a good thing in a paintjng. Oopsey.

Lots left to paint on this half sheet.

Heading toward THE END! I was getting tired and probably should have stopped.

But I kept on. Now you might notice the flowers don’t look so cut out now. That’s because my friend Mike suggested I use a Mr Clean eraser on the flower edges to soften them. THANKS Ms. Mike!! That helped.

Now the question of the hour is more splatter or not on the flowers especially the ones on the right side. I think I will sleep on it. Have to work fast because those crepe myrtles don’t last long.

Charles Reid Holbein colors plus quin gold.

Day 1309 Dr Sketchys

hard to believe it’s already Dr Sketchys time.

Started off great. A five minute gesture sketch done with a pentel brush pen and watercolor.

Stephanie was our model. Such a hoot. She’s the mistress of the Augusta’s Chat Noir Burlesque troupe- also very funny. The burlesque ladies have a show coming up July 21 22nd. Hope to make it.

Stephanie is as Frida Kahlo. Then it went downhill for a while. I am blaming painting all afternoon. I was tired!

Stephanie the vamp.

Thirty minute final pose. Quite pleased with it!!

Finally I tossed my pentel brush pen and drew with a stadler B pencil and voila got one I liked.

Here’s the sketch before I painted it.

I used my Holbein Metal Palette with Charles Reid colors. Ordered a new one from amazon because this one is getting rusty and crusty. I lust for a Craig Young Palette at $480 πŸ€ͺ. When I am rich and famous right?!!

Drawn in my super aquabee tablet. 11×14″

Margaret xoxoxoxo off to run errands before I head to The western North Carolina mountains for the weekend of the fourth.

Day 1294 Charles Reid FINALLY

It was awesome. A container ship passing by the hotel as I parked my car this am.

Seeing old friends as Judy and Charles Reid, Mike, Karen, and, of course-Colette, and meeting new friends. The dynamic duo – Charles and his wife Judy – are just delightful wonderful people.

The great man Charles Reid painting!!

His painting. Such magic watching him paint. Sold for $1400. Nice to know mine has gone up $400 since last May. Charles’ Contour Drawing

If you haven’t taken a class from him DO IT!! Or at least get his videos the next best thing.

Colette and I had a hasty lunch in her room and ran down to the river to walk along the Savannah. Looks just like my part of the river but no paddle boats where I live. Just a lot of kayaks.

The set up. Yep that’s a croissant!!

My contour drawing which means keep your hand on the paper and connect all the objects dummy(that’s me!! 4 times now I have taken his class. I should KNOW by now!!)

My painting l. Still don’t think it’s loose enough but everyone loved it. Someone even thought it was a Charles Reid πŸ‘€.

Bed time. I hope to get up early and go draw in downtown Savannah.

It’s so gorgeous and not hot then.

Day 1101 Inktober oops

I don’t think I ever posted this one. I need to sit down and paint more than the dogs. Double page spreads can be so time consuming and I have several to paint.

Working on a quilt with a definite finish date in mind -asap so painting taking a back seat for the moment.

This is the old Medical College of Georgia building on Telfair where the Medical school started. When it was restored in the 1980s thousands of bones were found in the basement left behind from cadavers stolen from the local black cemeteries picked up by our own Resurrection Man – Grandison Harris who got an article in the Smithsonian Magazine .

I recently listened to a fascinating audible book named Resurrectionist by Matthew Guinn about a similar character in Columbia SC at a medical school there. His other book about Atlanta post Civil War was also great.

Drawn on watercolor board with a Lamy EF Ted Nuttalls watercolor palette.

Margaret off in the rain to get her haircut. Hmm that should be frizzy. Xoxoxo

Day 1130. An oops

Can you figure out where I messed up?! The tall guy on the right. No idea how I did that. Thinking of painting over him with watercolor ground and having a redo.

As it is it’s unusable and I really like the rest of it. We shall see. So aggravating.

Day 1114 one more Starbucks.

These two guys were just chatting away in Chinese or Korean. Could have been Japanese for all I know. Their conversation was very animated. The guy on the right actually noticed I was drawing. He was really sweet and asked me if I had finished before he left.

Day 1113 – Urban sketching at StarbucksΒ

Really pleased with the way this one turns out. Don’t know why I didn’t post it sooner. I had a lot of trouble with pens. Four in my purse and NO ink in any of them. How is that possible. Met some friends at the new Starbucks on Bobby Jones.  Really nice BIG Starbucks. I drew the people in front of me. Some walked off some walked in.

The cars were a lot of fun to draw. Next time I am drawing my Prius in the painting lol. Artist car πŸš— self portrait.

Even like the way the crepe Myrtle turned out. I painted the whole thing wet in wet letting the colors melt into each other.

Day 1110 Henry

Snacking on goldfish when we went to Oakhurst park. This was a very quick sketch. Have you ever treed drawing a five year old who never stops?! But Henry loved the idea of me drawing him. He tried to hold still. That lasted about a second.

Day 1100 A big number!!

When I started this new blog I thought I would try to make 50 days of daily blogging and here we are at day 1100. Who knew. As Wayne Dyer said anything is possible if you do it one small piece at a time.

20 minute sketches. The last of the dr Sketchys really liked the wings. Great fun to draw. The flowers NOT so much fun to paint. Jessie was some kind of woodland fairy. I think. She held the pose rock steady for 20 minutes which after 2 1/2 hrs of paint is no easy thing to do.

Bytw I set the sketchbook up vertically while I drew and painted these. Anymore I almost can't paint or draw on a flat level
Surface. Strange but true. It feels odd. Time was short so these are all alla prima
Paintings. Love the way the darks in her legs and wings blended themselves.

Like Charles Reid says it's 50% you 50% the watercolor.

10×14 superaquabee sketch book which loves pentel brush pen and watercolor alike. Winsor Newton travel palette watercolors and all the Daniel Smith quinacridones. #10 DaVinci Kolinsky Sable.

Ttyl time to play with the grandkids. Hugs. Margaret in Atlanta xoxoxoxo

Day 1099 Moh Dr S

15 minute sketches. I think I would do better if I used a timer all the time. The mask has black wink of Stella glitter brush pen on it and the necklace gold wink of Stella.

Done in a superaquabee tablet 10×14 or 16. W pentel brush pen and winsor newton travel palette colors plus all the Daniel smith quinacridones.
