Day 2058 I 40 West of Asheville

Is this very nice red barn set in a field. I think I have painted in three times. Sometimes it’s fall sometimes it’s spring or summer.

Maybe I need to try it again on my HP arches. What do you think?!!

This is on 140# cp Kilimanjaro from Cheap Joes aka their watercolor paper. Runs about $100 for 25 Sheets. I think I still have a few sheets of it left. NICE paper.

LUCKY I DONT live in Asheville. There’s a Cheap Joes 10 minutes from moms house. Sooo dangerous. Love all the Cheap Joes stores and the Asheville one is killer.

Margaret trying to finish her David Baldacci book. Xoxoxox and cook dinner. I never cook dinner aka salad is moi.

Day 2054

Stones at Parafugel Spain on the Mediterranean. Did I go?! NOPE from a photo of Vlads. I didn’t even like the photo just couldn’t make up my mind what I wanted to paint that I had a photo of. Sketch on 140 lb cp rough Fabriano.

Sky wash. Cerulean w a dab of MIXED neutral tint. NOT about a tube of neutral tint but a mix of burnt sienna indigo and dioxzine purple.

I blotted the clouds w Kleenex and dabbed in some of the neutral tint for shadows.

Warm wash over all the rocks.

Moving along with step 2- 50 color/50 water. Really hate it. Especially rocks in middle foreground.

And here’s how I left it. Green tree in background IS distracting guess I will fogk it up. Rofl. Manana.

Margaret ready for bed. Xoxoxox Up early in search of THE photo.

Day 2053 it’s a bird

No it’s a thrasher. The Georgia state bird. Evidently kills smaller birds. Bad bird. Have a big one 11″ or very leggy at the back porch feeders. Never bothers anyone. Maybe mine is a lady thrasher. Lol

Remember my grandson said I could sell these for $3 rofl.

Day 1695 Summer Snow WIP?!!

Summer Snow – Fluid 140# cp paper 15×22″

Sorry for the late post. Been working on this when I wasn’t busy walking 🚶‍♀️ 🚶 🤗!! My feet are tired.

What I started off drawing.

I drew it with a 2 B Derwent sketching pencil. Very soft. Before I started painting I erased it to lighten the pencil marks.

Here we go. Decided the background was too light.

Kind of wish I had left it.

But I thought the background was too close in tone to the flowers. No idea why I thought that but I did. So I darkened it. Hmmm. Well those flowers really show now. And they look cut out. Not a good thing in a paintjng. Oopsey.

Lots left to paint on this half sheet.

Heading toward THE END! I was getting tired and probably should have stopped.

But I kept on. Now you might notice the flowers don’t look so cut out now. That’s because my friend Mike suggested I use a Mr Clean eraser on the flower edges to soften them. THANKS Ms. Mike!! That helped.

Now the question of the hour is more splatter or not on the flowers especially the ones on the right side. I think I will sleep on it. Have to work fast because those crepe myrtles don’t last long.

Charles Reid Holbein colors plus quin gold.

Day 1309 Dr Sketchys

hard to believe it’s already Dr Sketchys time.

Started off great. A five minute gesture sketch done with a pentel brush pen and watercolor.

Stephanie was our model. Such a hoot. She’s the mistress of the Augusta’s Chat Noir Burlesque troupe- also very funny. The burlesque ladies have a show coming up July 21 22nd. Hope to make it.

Stephanie is as Frida Kahlo. Then it went downhill for a while. I am blaming painting all afternoon. I was tired!

Stephanie the vamp.

Thirty minute final pose. Quite pleased with it!!

Finally I tossed my pentel brush pen and drew with a stadler B pencil and voila got one I liked.

Here’s the sketch before I painted it.

I used my Holbein Metal Palette with Charles Reid colors. Ordered a new one from amazon because this one is getting rusty and crusty. I lust for a Craig Young Palette at $480 🤪. When I am rich and famous right?!!

Drawn in my super aquabee tablet. 11×14″

Margaret xoxoxoxo off to run errands before I head to The western North Carolina mountains for the weekend of the fourth.

Day 1294 Charles Reid FINALLY

It was awesome. A container ship passing by the hotel as I parked my car this am.

Seeing old friends as Judy and Charles Reid, Mike, Karen, and, of course-Colette, and meeting new friends. The dynamic duo – Charles and his wife Judy – are just delightful wonderful people.

The great man Charles Reid painting!!

His painting. Such magic watching him paint. Sold for $1400. Nice to know mine has gone up $400 since last May. Charles’ Contour Drawing

If you haven’t taken a class from him DO IT!! Or at least get his videos the next best thing.

Colette and I had a hasty lunch in her room and ran down to the river to walk along the Savannah. Looks just like my part of the river but no paddle boats where I live. Just a lot of kayaks.

The set up. Yep that’s a croissant!!

My contour drawing which means keep your hand on the paper and connect all the objects dummy(that’s me!! 4 times now I have taken his class. I should KNOW by now!!)

My painting l. Still don’t think it’s loose enough but everyone loved it. Someone even thought it was a Charles Reid 👀.

Bed time. I hope to get up early and go draw in downtown Savannah.

It’s so gorgeous and not hot then.

Day 1218 Urban Sketching

My nieces sweet house where I stayed in Charlotte for class. It’s just a small house but the perfect size with a small perfect kitchen fabulous bathrooms. Three bedrooms and hardwood floors. Screened porch and front porch. A great yard. What else do you need. Oh handy to downtown class

Drawn with a Lamy Safari in my stillman and birn. I painted this with my paints left from class. DS sepentine Green House grass with a dab of hookers Mineral violet shadows yellow ochre for the trim. Roof trees are manganese and quin sienna. Trees have a dab of burnt umber as does the fence. Manganese sky. A bit of alizarin crimson for the pinks added while wet. And some brilliant purple for the iris.

All the painting was done wet on wet so the colors would mingle on the page.

Day 1130. An oops

Can you figure out where I messed up?! The tall guy on the right. No idea how I did that. Thinking of painting over him with watercolor ground and having a redo.

As it is it’s unusable and I really like the rest of it. We shall see. So aggravating.

Day 1128 Cheap Joes Hurricane Harvey Relief Program

100% of your donation thru Joes goes to Hurricane Harvey relief plus Joe will kick in a percentage of sales and you don’t have to buy a thing.

Joe dressed as Theo Van Gogh giving us his Van Gogh presentation A real treat if you get a chance to see it.

Boone NC

I was not aware of the fact that Joe Miller founder of Cheap Joes takes charity work so seriously til John Salimen shared with me that after every Hurricane like Katrina and Sandy Joe goes thru their customer database and sends gift certificates to any customer that lived in the disaster area.

Joe recently got a Humitarian award from the American Watercolor Society because of his charity work. He employees mentally handicapped people and then brags on them when you tour the warehouse. It makes them glow with pride. Just a lovely man.

Which is the reason I ALWAYS recommend Cheap Joe’s when people ask where to buy their art supplies.

Soooo

Here’s how you do it!!!

Think I will get some of that fabriano hot press I have been wanting while I am at it.

And while you are there treat yourself to a Cheap Joes class. You will get treated like a Prince or Princess and have a lovely time.
