Day 696 – Memories

Best thing about a travel journal is the memories when you look back through it.

Raisin and I shared some awesome deserts and a free shot of Jameson’s is always welcome!!

This was a pretty great strawberry shortcake at Calhouns on the Tennessee River. The view was fabulous. Will post it when I get done painting it!  Riverside is a wonderful place to eat especially when it’s a different river than the one i live on.

The lines on this page are made with a Wonsor Newton watercolor  markers and a Daniel Smith watercolor crayon that I got at Jerrys Artarama during the demo.

I color with them – draw lines -and then release them with water which let’s them bleed where they want to go. A really fun effect.
And I started this last nite. Forgot to eat dinner. Must be fun right?! Hmm 🤔 full sheet arches 300# 22 x 30″ eeekkkkk

Thanks for checking by.

More Knoxville fun to come.

Day 690 – Progress I think

How it looks now with collage bits glued down at the end of the day. 22×30″ Arches 300# cold press

This morning.

After a consult with John the teacher. How it looked after I sprayed it with the atomizer and removed the masking tape. Still to much white.

Auditioning collage bits by taking pics of their placements.
Audition number two

At the end of class today. So much work. So busy.  Calling it Waiting in Line.

Thanks for reading.

Margaret who is exhausted from all the fun. And work😳

Day 644 It’s done

Rhineharts 10×15″ Watercolor on Crescent watercolor board

Done and ready for delivery. I think I gave a sigh of relief Repainting this successfully. You just never know with watercolor if you will mess it up or not. Thank goodness I didn’t.

I had to do it over because the original was in my sketchbook and it was drawn across two pages. Would I have cut that one out and sell it to Rhineharts?! Sure would but hard to frame it when it’s in two pieces.
So a redo was in order.

Here’s the ink sketch. I actually used pencil first and let it dry a while before I erased it. No ink smears on this one.

The Rhineharts Masters Week tshirt. A bit darker than the original!

While it dried I did some last minute shopping before Masters Madness descends full blown on this town.
I got home about five and it was painted in time to sit down and enjoy Grantchester on Masterpiece Mystery. Really enjoy that show.
The shirt on display at the restaurant
Back to the painting – it’s painted on crescent watercolor board. Heavy stuff.
Colors used – Sky cerulean, building Winsor yellow with grey made from cerulean and burnt sienna or yellow ochre. Roof has the same colors with Inathrodone for darks. Trim is marine blue with viridian. Blacks are Inathrodone and burnt sienna or burnt umber.
Trees are burnt umber and Inathrodone for trunks. Inathrodone, viridian, yellow ochre and green apatite. White gouache for lights.
Thanks for reading. Get your shirt at Rhineharts.

Day 643 -A Bit of Fun

One of the things we love about Costco is the snacks. Of course we all know there are NO calories in the snacks if you eat them there. Lol. So after a walk thru of Costco with heavy snacks I decided to draw all the ones I ate.

This is what I had when I left. I sat at the snack bar tables and sketched it before I forgot some of this deliciousness.
Drawn on Strathmore 500 Mixed Media with Carbon Black ink. Noodler Konrad pen.
Thanks for reading.

Day 641 PCM and the t shirt

Really loving this sketch of PonceCity  Market Szechuan Restaurant. Love the dragon. Strathmore 500 watercolor paper carbon platinum black ink in carbon fine tip pen.

Repainting the tshirt sketch as promised. Hope to deliver it Tuesday to Rhineharts.
Letting the ink dry so no smears on it. Ink smears are so annoying and so unpredictable. A kin to letting paint dry!!!
I usually don’t use pencil but since it’s a redo of the original sketch which has a split page from the sketchbook it’s a necessity if the restaurant is to have it.

The sketchbook.
Thanks for reading.

Day?! (640) It’s Saturday

So once again I posted this on the wrong blog.  I really have to delete the other one. Sigh. Hurrah!! It’s deleted. No more posting on it accidentally.

😃When I am home that means I have been sketching and painting at the life modeling session that Prof Al Beyer had at USC Aiken. Pleased with my sketch today.

Ilenia 20×30″. Acrylic
I will probably add some more purple to her left side. I had more but painted it out. In the rush of an hour and a half of drawing and painting sometimes u just run out of time.
Probably change the red on her cheeks. I think it’s a bit much. But better than the purple I had on her cheeks to start with. I left it in Aiken so I would get a fresh look at it Monday and not be able to torture her all weekend painting her at home.
The background could use some work too. It’s just some ultramarine blue that I scrubbed on with a paper towel when it spilled in my paint box. I finally just let it dry instead of cleaning it up. What a mess that was.
Colors used titanium white, nickel Azo gold, pyrrole red and dioxzine purple. Burnt umber for hair. Cad yellow yellow ochre and a bit of Green gold in the drapery.
   Thanks for reading!

Day?! Rhineharts

Sold a painting to Rhineharts that will be on their Masters Week shirt. How exciting is that. I know stacks will be sold that week.
  The shirt pocket

I sat out front of Rhineharts waiting for my high school friends Peggy and Karen. We are all excited to be on the shirt!!
Yesterday I got in Charles Reid’s class at Cheap Joes. It fills the instant its released. My friend Mike and I got one of the 16 places. Now to contain our excitement til May 2017!!!😳😃
Thanks for reading.

Day ?! St Pauls

I drew the inside the other day and decided to draw the outside when I was downtown yesterday. It’s a beautiful old colonial style church. Really like the way this painting turned out.
All the main colors were done in one wash of color and then other colors dropped in while it was still wet.

  Here’s the inside again.

Day 630 – The Great Augusta Fire of 1916

Anniversary was yesterday. 100 years ago everything down from 8th Street and east of Greene  Street to the river burned.

We went to the Tuesday Music Live Concert at historic St Pauls which commemorated the anniversary with one of their Tuesday Convert series. 100 years ago yesterday the congregation gathered to pray the colonial era church would be saved from blaze devouring downtown.

I drew this while I listened to the wonderful pianist.

Here’s a shot of the sacristy and a video by a local historian Bill Kirby about the fire.

A quick sketch I did a couple of years ago of the church from the street.

And an exterior shot.

Thanks for reading.

Day 629 – Henry Time

This weekend my sister Jan and I tagged teamed my sweet grandchildren Henry and Livia. Henry slowed down enough for me to sketch him watching Care Bears and playing with his cars his gramy bought him at Mc Donald’s and Publixs.

His dad asked me if I bought him a car at Publixs and I said Yes of course he asked for one and a rabbit for his sister and flowers for his mom but we knew daddy didn’t want anything but that ham we cooked!!

They also went to the zoo. When I asked Henry what his favorite part of the zoo was he told me you Gramy. What a kid. Lol.

Last a bit of ink fun with my Kuretake brush pen. I just like the quote.  And it’s true. Hard to be perfect.

I got the quote from the strathmore art on line sketchbook Art Ninja Graham Smiths class.  Check it out. It’s free.  I wish I drew glad as well as he does. Here is his website
