This actually got published yesterday on that other very annoying website that I need to delete. If I could figure out HOW! 

Before I unpack do the laundry go to get groceries fill up the gas tank and what else?! Work on my commission map and commissioned socks go to French ummm post photos to an online art gallery – I decided I would do a few animal sketches. 
My ever obliging jack Russell Zoe flopped on the sofa in annoyance. She wanted to be in my lap. 

The cat. He was intent on a thorough cat bath. He wiggled he moved. He would not settle. 

He turned around 

He was almost on his head. 

Then he walked off. I couldn’t I entice him back even with his favorite kitty treat. Sigh. 
Funny thing about a cat. When I draw him I get the feeling there’s a lion hiding in his small 9 lb body. Good idea to practice for a trip to the zoo drawing the big cats. 

Another sock done. This pair is sold. Hurrah.

If you have ever been to Key West you know the iguanas are everywhere and at least to me they are fascinating. 

So many colors and sizes. Small bright emerald green ones with red feet running lightening fast or huge five footers lounging snakelike launching themselves into the water if you get to close. 

Gobbling fish scraps from the fisherman  near the water. Or gobbling your favorite bush. 

Took these photos thinking I would draw more of them. 

Nope. So many photos so little time! 

There  are so many on Key West that they are actually a nuisance and quite destructive gobbling vegetation like grasshoppers. But I still find them fascinating.

Family birthday party. 

One I did a couple of years ago of Zoe. 

I need to get back to do more watercolor. I just have been keeping my palette cleaned up aka not on the kitchen table so not painting.

I had decided to turn the unused dining room into a studio. It has great light with east north and south facing Windows and skylights but was so hot from the triple sliding south facing doors I gave it up quickly. 

And knitting too many socks when I should be painting. 

And I have actually been sewing for my sweet granddaughter Livia who is two today.

Als BFF his dog. He constantly reminds Al that it’s time for a walk when Al gets busy. One of my personal favorites..isnt that a great face?? This won a Certificate of Merit at the last State Fair Art Show in Columbia.  Its an acrylic while most of his big paintings are oil.

Live Oak. Standing in front of this painting is just like sitting under the old oaks in the parks in Savannah.

Black Water – probably along the Edisto River.

Just like walking in the  southern  woods on a fall or winter day.

If you are doing laundry Tom is sure to show up seeming to materialize from thin air…how does he know there is fabric fun to be had?!! He will hide in the sheets or towels everytime and walks off in disgust if you dare to fold them up.

Watercolor in a Moleskine …dont buy one the paper has changed and is nasty now!

Zoe and Tom frequently jockey for position with mom….who said a Jack Russell hates cats??!

The thing about dogs is they are always curled up nearby ready for you to draw…and another good thing about drawing them is that when they cross the rainbow bridge as sweet Bear did recently you have lots of great sketches that the owner can remember him with….

And when they sleep they dont move alot…they just rearrange and head back off into dream land.

Unlike kids and people who IF they are awake are GOING to move!!!

PS a little color on a black and white sketch goes a long way.

Indeed. Posting these so you can see that I too mess up sketches. Everybody does. 
This switch can be cropped so it looks ok. It was going fine tilHenry  decided to move yesterday morning. 

And I got his leg to small. I was so annoyed I didn’t try to finish or fix it. 

Zoe turned out a little better but have you ever tried to draw. Dog chewing on a rawhide. They don’t hold still. At least lot their head or their paws. What was I thinking. 

Then Henry sat up and leaned on his daddy’s legs doe two seconds. Just long enough to mess up another piece of paper. 

Then I thought gesture sketch of Drew  and Livia.  Not bad but I couldn’t see his feet. And Drew never holds still. 

Off to French conversation class. Parlez vous francaise?

After an energetic weekend with the grandkids age two and four adorable but oh so busy the dogs and I are taking it easy.  Well at least after loads of laundry sheets and towels from swimming in the pool a laps of dishes several trash bags out and toys picked up and floors moped and vacuumed plus walls scrubbed with Mr cleans we are taking the rest  of the day off. 

Honey hopeful as usual. Dogs are so much easier to draw then people. They hold a pose or return to it soon if you wait.

Been working on this view of the Oconoluftee River. Once again the foliage was not cooperating. Nor was the river despite saving my whites. 

I tried adding more darks to the foliage and Thalo blue to the river. 

Did it help? What do you think??

I sometimes if anyone is out in blog land on Friday nites. I almost didn’t make it here myself. Family visiting and I meant to do this post this am. Oops. 

I completely redid this one. Still not wild about the foliage but I like the rest of it better. I actually scratched the grass in with an old pair of fiskars scissors because I couldn’t find my xacto knife. 

I don’t know why I did the grass that way. All in one direction. I could have looked out the windows and found brush one the edge of the river to draw. Sigh. 

 The tree trunks  are much better. I left my whites. 

Here’s the first wash. 
And here’s the first go round. Tree trunks were terrible.
