Day 762 – Portrait

Work continues. Or should I say progresses. I added the shadow which is a mix of Winsor purple and Nickel Azo gold. The gold is very transparent. I also added the left hand and the phone. More shadows on the chair. Worked on the background some.
I think I need to darken the left side of her jacket to make her look rounder and not so wide.

A month ago. What have I been doing?! Goofing off I guess. It’s summer and it’s hot here.

Could be that I need to quit binge knitting. More minimoochie fair isle socks!

Day 761 -Chickens

I do LOVE to draw chickens. I thought these were barred rocks but now I am not sure.

Whatever they are they are definitely adorable plump birds. There were strutting around the farmstead at Oconaluftee hunting for bugs and worms.

I hear they are a must for organic gardeners who use them instead of pesticides.

Before I splattered the chickens. The background is painted with cerulean, quin gold and quin sienna. I used the same mix to splatter them.

The birds are painted with – you guessed it!! Ted Nuttalls transparent palette and cerulean and indigo.

Day 760 – back in the mountains

I realized I still had a few Sketches from Gatlinburg unpainted so I started knocking them out today after I finished photographing a lot of paintings.
Photographing art work is tedious at best and if it’s framed and under glass you have to take it out. Eekk.
This was the painting before I lifted color off the roof behind the main cabin and off the chimney. I thought about getting out my white gel pen but using masking tape to tape off the places I wanted to lift with a Mr Clean eraser was easy. It will take it back almost to the white I should have left.

Back to the water color. Most of it is painted with Ted Nuttalls transparent colors. The main stay in my pallette but I do find it impossible to paint without cerulean.

Here it is before I splattered it and fixed the fence.

Socks are done and off to Asheville via USPS to keep Dads toes toasty if we are lucky enough for a cold snap.

Zoe doing what she does best being a well behaved JackRussell snoozing. I do find those ads with misbehaving JRTs annoying like the Angieslist ad. Never had one JRT tear stuff up and we have had 16 of them.

Labs however – I called my last one jaws because of all the things the dear dog gobbled.

Tom Cat hogging the dog bed. Just as well. Neither of them seem to like it.

Both are drawn with my first Noodler a Creaper that looks like a cigar. Love that pen. Drawn in my super aqua bee tablet with Carbon Platinum Plus Black ink.

Happy Sunday. Busy watching Oprahs Super Soul Sunday so my post will be short.

I have a new big rug in the den and Honey evidently loves it. The lab hair I have vacuumed off of it!

So Honey is losing more hair for me now. A quick sketch in a small Aqua superbee tablet with a Noodler Konrad loaded with Carbon Platinum black ink. The red is a Tombow pen. Tombow are highly fugitive but fun to play with especially when you don’t feel like getting out the watercolors.

Ditto the first one. She looks like a fat black seal. She’s really a flabrador but it’s hard to tell her no. And then there’s a slight case of counter surfing. Bad dog.

The neighbors think her name is Biscuit because I get her to come by calling Biscuit! The dog has a serious love affair with Cracker Barrel Biscuits even when they are days old.

Knitting socks for my 93 year old dad. Malabrigo sock yarn. He’s a blue lover so these should be a hit.

Already again.

Always amazes me the variety and quality of the work done in only an hour and a half of painting.

Ilania acrylic

24×30 Really like the way she turned out. Tried to include her hands. Sometimes I think the acrylic is like trying to paint with butter cream. Detail is not easy.

Also love the way her face turned out. I used very few brush strokes but the ones I used worked.

Drew Murphey Acrylic 24×30 Gorgeous job!

Conte Crayon. Awesome Job. I wish I knew his name. He does lovely work. And the circles he adds are an interesting touch.

CA s oil. I teased him he had made her monumental like a thirties WPA painter.

Cathe Dennis a dreamy oil. Her paintings are so soft and ethereal.

Fred Bs out there acrylic. We joked he let out her Bete Noir.

Tom Needhams acrylic. This is an underpainting. He ran out of time before he got a chance to add the flesh tone. It is almost done.

Probably my favorite. Caran d’ache neocolor ii 5 minute sketch

My second fav. Her face was too small to do a good job with the blunt crayons.

Twenty minutes?! At least I got the legs right but maybe I should work on her disappearing hand.
