Day 984 Alex and Willie

Every Sunday I watch CBS SUnday Morning. My fav bits on it are the partsabout  artists or singers people stuff. And this show is crammed with them. Alex was on this am talking about his 45 impersonations. Hard to resist sketching him. He morphed into 45. The mans definitely making me political!!

The background was Quin gold but not enough contrast w the head. Like the orange one better. After all he is the Orange One”

Have always loved Willie and meant to just draw him. He just popped onto the page. What’s not to love about an 84 year old who says “we woke up and we are still not dead!”??

Think they are done. Maybe. Trying to resist the urge to scribble on them in the background with a soft dark pencils. So many quotable quotes from them both.

Painted on 280# Arches Cold Press with Ted Nuttalls transparent palette plus cerulean, hematite and cheap Joes Andrews Turquoise. Pen pentel brush pen.

Ttyl Going to try my hand at horses today.

Margaret taking a walk in the park today too.

Day 976 Time for some News

Been obsesssed with the news as many other Americans have and I take notes and draw the talking heads. Monday I was almost late to class listening to Comey FBI director talk about their investigation into the Presidents claims against Obama which of course as most people knew even before the testimony were completely unfounded.

His other bomb  shell  was that the FBI has been investigating the Trumps campaigned connections to the Russians since July.  And I am keeping track of what they are saying and how it’s interlocked.

It’s just all to incredible.

About the picture. I had a few problems with Comeys face. His eyes and mouth should be parallel. They weren’t. I fixed him by adding a dark left corner to his mouth which raised it slightly.

The purple brown on his face is Daniel smiths piemonite. Love that color. Makes delicious darks combined with blues too. And stays transparent.

I think I nailed Schiff.

Most of the red is a grease pencil. SO much fun. Loved them. Got a box of 5-6different  colors on Amazon.  It’s like a crayon on steroids.

Otherwise the colors are Ted Nuttalls transparent palette plus piemonite on their faces for shadows.

Ttyl Margaret xoxoxo Where’s my Dick Blick 40% off coupon?? Heading that way today. Art store shopping!!

Day 974 Art for Breakfast

Decided to quickly draw my Sunday brunch before I ate it. Hmm it’s an omelet. Got a little dark. Aka lost my yellows. But on the whole I like this a lot.

The tulips were really standing up but they are so pretty decided to draw them flopping so they would fit.

Since I also used a Prismacolor art stick or two and a white gel pen this is really mixed media.

Lamy safari Arches #280 paper Lexington grey ink.

Day 973 St Patrick’s Day in Augusta

We had an Urban Sketchers of Augusta meet up at Artus to draw the St Patrick’s day parade Friday. Fun time with Sandy from Artus and AC who fell in love w my Lamy EF that I lent him and sweet Katie Padgett.
These guys were enjoying some Guinness in front of Soy Noodle House and watching the parade go by. Architecture is a little wonky because I was standing on the sidewalk looking around the mob that passed by. Some of them would just stand in front of me. Eeek.

Whiskey Bar still needs paint. These two are on 280# Arches cold press. Oops cut off their legs.

A great pirate ship passed by. I taught AC and Katie that u don’t have to draw everyone you see but can add people from different floats to the one you are working on. Who will know!? Just you.

One float was full of an adorable group of older women from St Johns Towers a retirement home. I forgot to draw the crowd in front darn it because I was so enthralled with the old truck and the ladies.

These two are in my Stillman and Birn Alpha which is almost full.

All are drawn with my Lamy Safari. Painted w Ted Nuttalls transparent palette.

Ttyl class in Aiken.

Day 972 Approaching 1000 days of daily blogging.

Neither sleet nor snow nor sickness nor activity will stop the daily posting. Only 28 days to go til DAY 1000!!! I started out aiming at 50 days and didn’t think I would make that goal. So now I have far surpassed that.

Waiting for His Shift at the Inner Bean.

He sits out on the sidewalk in front of the Inner Bean reading and smoking cigarettes till time for his lunch shift. He’s a fixture there. And no idea of his name. Need to fix that.

This guy was sitting under my favorite light at the Bean. I think I need another go at that light. Because the table is near the window it gets a great light on a sunny day.

It’s a high table so the angle is off on it.

Ted Nuttalls transparent palette. Lamy Safari pen. Stillman and Birn Alpha

Off to shop for a few more supplies.  Starting another online class tomorrow with Julianna Coles Book of the Night extreme journalism. She offers a lot of other classes in visual journaling.  I really enjoyed  her week in the sketchbookskool class Polishing.

And yes I started scribbling this morning on another page but not done enough yet to share it. Stand by!!

Ttyl Margaret xoxox off to walk the dogs and get an old kids book to turn into a journal. Oh and wet wipes. Required!!

Day 970 Avenging Angel

Happy St Patrick’s Day!! Time to wear the green.

Mixed media 15×22. 140# Kilimanjaro watercolor paper.

Got up at five am and started working on a not too great watercolor of Ilaina. The heads too small. And her beautiful long hair was pinned up.

I started journaling while listening to Robert Holden on Hay House. He’s the happiness guru. Good way to start your day.

Then I stamped her and collaged her.  The wings were scraps that just fell next to her shoulders. That’s a sign isn’t it that she wanted to be an angel?!

Next came the paint. On her eyes. Added hair. Scribbled on her with my Prismacolor art sticks. Bytw I went for the black one and ended up with the dark blue one.

This angel wants what she wants. Then I added the red Prismacolor.  Didn’t want her too precious as angels can be.

More paint. More scribbling. Back and forth. Scribbled on her face with a 4B pencil both writing and defining her face.

BOOM She was done. At least for now.  She might decide differently.

Ttyl. Off to the parade. 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

Day 963 Rachel Maddow!

These sketches brought the total of people drawn for the week to 82 or so. Has been riveting lately. It’s like watching a spy novel written by one of my favorite authors John Le Carre or Robert Ludlum unfolding in real life.

So why did I write all the notes?! My mind tends to drift when I don’t take notes. It’s rather like a doodle for me. It keeps my attention focused and it helps me remember what’s been said. Truly I think I would be paying attention with or without the note taking BUT I kind of like the way it looks too.

It’s my writing on my art work taken to the extreme. And you know I do love to write on my artwork. It gives a sort of Susan Shie flavor to it.

I almost left her without her black jacket and top painted. I took a pic like this in case but decided to paint it and I like it better painted.

Here’s the sketch.

And a sketch of her only guest that night US Congressman Eric Swalwell who is also fascinating.  Not to sure how his right cheek got so much darker. Oh well. I guess I could go back and paint the other one but just been too busy. Getting close to the 100 people mark for the week.

The sketch. These are done in my Stillman and Birn Alpha with a Lamy Safari loaded with Lexington Gray ink.

Colors used. Quin gold Quin coral Quin burnt orange cerulean burnt umber ultramarine blue.

Ttyl

Margaret xoxoxo off to do her last ten people.

Day 962 its all about the Catsup!

Off drawing something somewhere today so thought I would share this new painting with you.

All about the Catsup based on a picture I took on my birthday at Flying Biscuit in Candler Park on McClendon in Atlanta. I had my camera propped on the counter which gave everything an odd angle.

I lightened and brightened the catsup and darkened the counter  so it would stand out. I added some Indian yellow to Quin red to make a lighter brighter catsup color. So far I like it.

Last Wednesday my friend Drew said I had made her look like she was drooling. Oops.  I hope I fixed that.

Colors I have been using Quin red Indian yellow ultramarine blue and thalo blue titanium white. Burnt umber. A liquitex light blue and flesh color and a tad bit of primary yellow. And that’s it.

 Here’s the picture.

Thanks for reading.

Day 961 – Day 2 -OneWeek100People2017

No idea how many people I have drawn now. 20 last evening at Panera and 11 more off MSNBC. Right now this Al Franken sketch is my favorite.

I also like most

Of this page except for Eve. What happened there?!

And this page except Lawrence.

The blank spot is for the no longer missing Christopher Steele who Al Franken said he would go to the ends of the earth to interview. Go Al!!

Think Lindsey Graham looks good as does  Adam Schiff. Both have interesting faces. Rachel. Hmm will try again.

Panera.  Soooo cold. I thought I would freeze. I started to go to the chic Fil a bit it was crawling with people and sooo noisy. So I left and went to the quieter Panera.

A lot of families were there. I am

Blaming the cold for these mostly awful drawings. All though there are a few bright spots like the grandmother on the right.

I think all the Panera people were done in an hour. So that’s three minutes per person.

I drew these people twice. Big baseball discussion. Dad showing the son how to hold the bat.

Prismacolor pencils Stillman and Birn Alpha Lamy with Lexington gray ink.

Ttyl off to paint.
