15 minute sketches. I think I would do better if I used a timer all the time. 
The mask has black wink of Stella glitter brush pen on it and the necklace gold wink of Stella.
Done in a superaquabee tablet 10×14 or 16. W pentel brush pen and winsor newton travel palette colors plus all the Daniel smith quinacridones.
I never get tired of trying to draw it and paint it. My fav building in Augusta. I think I got it this time.
It’s an old deconsecrated Catholic Church downtown on Greene Street. I used to take Spanish from the nuns in the school to the read of the church as a third and fourth grader. My mom thought it was how we needed to spend our Saturdays. Asks me if I speak Spanish. Nope!!
Colors used. Piemonite, cerulean, ultramarine blue, Quin burnt orange, burnt umber, Quin gold, vermilion, green appetite, sap green.
Drawn w my Lamy EF in a stillman and Birn Alpha. Paper will dry flat but it’s a little wavy now.

Always a good place to draw. Add people as they drift into your picture. Next time we are drawing at Wet Paint party at Sacred Heart an incredible setting Saturday Feb 18 7-10 pm.

Sarah 24×30″ Acrylic alla prima.
Her last modeling session before she moves to Los Angelos this week. We will miss her. She had such a sweet pensive look today. Maybe she was thinking about her big move. LA is a long way from Augusta Ga.
The painting. Was done in an hour or so. I liked it when I left. Now I am not so sure but that’s life isn’t it?! Took a while and several restarts to decide how to paint her but after that it was easy. I turned the panel one way and then the other. Finally painted her vertically.
She was in such a nice position with her legs extend I wished I had a big square to paint her on but oh well only a rectangle.
Colors used titanium white pyrrole red and nickel azo gold for skin. Highlights are primary yellow mixed with the skin color. Shadows are Winsor purple added to the same mix.
I used some thalo blue and that’s all the colors.
Here she is at first break. Forty minutes. 
Last session I drew this large ink drawing of Sarah on a piece of mat board. It’s Sarah’s goodby present. Took about 15 minutes.
Oops I forgot her hand and left leg. Oh well.
Drawn with my Pentel brush pen and I bled the ink with a wet Winsor Newton flat fake mongoose brush for shading.
It was a big crowd today. 
People were even sitting on the floor. Oh it’s good to be young. They were rewarded with Happy buttons for their floor positions.

So I will make this short.
I keep thinking there’s a painting. At Costco. Maybe several. Not sure. I drew this at the pre Super Bowl snack frenzy. Vultures including me walked away well fed. WHOLE slices of pizza. I stood not far from them booked propped on my cart, drawing and nobody noticed me. NOT ONE person. So strange.
The lady was handing out pizza bites. They had to pass right by me to get to the whole pizza slices. The mobs were huge. Sausage hot dogs Artichoke dip popcorn -lots of great snacks.

I drew this apartment building from the porch of the Partridge Inn last Wednesday. It was bathed in the late afternoon sun. I don’t know if I captured it but it’s my other favorite sketch from yesterday.
Color Quin cold and Quin coral on the building w a violet in the shadows. Hematite green bushes w ultramarine blue. Sky cerulean.

Went sketching downtown with my sweet friend AC Daniel. We ended up at the Soy Noodle house eating. Gotta keep your strength up. So far this is my fav sketch done that day. It looks terrible after I painted it but turned it into a journal page with the lettering.

After all that sneezing and Benadryl decided to be lazy today and binge on Netflix’s.
Maybe I should do some urban sketching off of Midsommer Murders? It’s always set in the most charming Bristish villages as long as you overlook a serial murder or two in every village.
About the sketch one of the Key West sketches. A steel drum player at Buzzards Roost. Sketched on location of course.
Colors are Ted Nuttalls transparent colors. Pentel. Rush pen in a Stillman and Birn Zeta.
Tip: I do much better painting all trees when I use my squirrel mops. I have a 12 and a big fat Isabey mop. It keeps me from getting to detailed. Then I usually splatter them to give the small lead effect.
Love my mops. Top one is the Isabey 12 second one is an Isabey 8 I think. Bottom one is a Richeson 2. The 12 is from Blick Atlanta Peachtree store. The bottom two are from Cheap Joes. I use the two smaller ones the most.
It’s really hard to get detailed with these which is great for trees or painting Charles Reid style. The smallest brush he likes to use is an Isabey 16 Kolinski sable.

Margaret xoxoxo thinking about a run to the nearest park to sketch the kids in the manufactured snow park. One day only event.
Day 1 at the dog park. I hated this one but now I think I like it because of all the people and all the dogs.
The seat on the right was completely misdrawn. And I tried to correct it. I had run out of room for the people OPPS.
This group is my favorite part. Lots of dogs, lots of people. I sit in my car in the parking lot and try to catch the people and dogs before they move. I used a Noodler Creaper pen and de artrementis document brown ink.
The bench was painted with Daniel smith green apatite which granulates and Inathradone with a touch of burnt umber. All painted wet on wet. The bushes were painted like the background in Monday’s post though I didn’t take as long.
I did this one today. There was only one dog in the whole park!? And three people. Wonder where the other dogs were.
These were drawn yesterday or the day before. The tall guy stood there right until I started to draw him and then he walked off. Same thing happened with the lady. Before that they had a BIG conversation.

There are actually ten pages of these but this set messed up the other eight already finished pages. I was bored after painting the first eight and decided to try something different.
Fealing gave us an example with this wash on it so I decided to try it. The background is a wash of 16 washes of color. I applied the first eight backwards so I did 8 more in the right order and the washes leaked. It’s a great color BUT not so great I wanted to mess up ten or twelve other pages.
See below for color combos for the background.
Here are the pages that were messed up. Even worse I had finished painting them ALL. There are grey blobs on all of them. One set of pages even got stuck together. 
I did use some white gouache on a few to try to fix them with varying degrees of success. White gouache my BFF. 
Just a small leak on this one.
Big lean on this but it didn’t show so much.
