Day 1113 – Urban sketching at Starbucks

Really pleased with the way this one turns out. Don’t know why I didn’t post it sooner. I had a lot of trouble with pens. Four in my purse and NO ink in any of them. How is that possible. Met some friends at the new Starbucks on Bobby Jones.  Really nice BIG Starbucks. I drew the people in front of me. Some walked off some walked in.

The cars were a lot of fun to draw. Next time I am drawing my Prius in the painting lol. Artist car 🚗 self portrait.

Even like the way the crepe Myrtle turned out. I painted the whole thing wet in wet letting the colors melt into each other.

Day 1110 Henry

Snacking on goldfish when we went to Oakhurst park. This was a very quick sketch. Have you ever treed drawing a five year old who never stops?! But Henry loved the idea of me drawing him. He tried to hold still. That lasted about a second.

Day 1103 Its Saturday

Katie Well this was not great. I forgot my watercolor brushes and didn't have a canvas so I played with my neocolor ii for first forty minute session.

All my sketches are on 16×20 Strathmore
Bristol.

I moved for the next forty minutes. Used my 6B chunk of lead and a bit of the 9b chunk of lead. Hmm wonder if you can get lead poisoning from it?

Third session drawing. My favorite although I think I made Katie look too old.

Drew Murphys. Acrylic 24×30" My favorite of the rest.

Jeremy's lovely sketch.

A lovely pastel by someone named Al or Alex maybe.

Also really liked this one by Marilyn Hartley. Oil

Al Beyer's HUGE oil.

Dawns oil 24×30"

Dr Fred's. Such a happy acrylic.

And the lovely Ilaina in her Matisse phase. Oil!

That's it. Ttyl

Day 1103 Blind contours

Our three old Jack Russells – Charlie the best jack russell ever til Zoe, Jazz Manic feature and Susie super mom.

A few more oldies from The box.

Charlie

Blind contours. Something I haven't done for a while. You are suppose to keep your pen always on the page while looking only at whatever you are drawing.

Of course I had to color some of them. Jazz had big funny feet even though she was a tiny dog.

The jack Russell state. As in when are u going to play ball with me?

jazz

Jazz

Jazz

all of these are blind contours of Jazz.
They are just delightfully wonky sketches done in a minute or two.

Hmm well she did have very short legs and a really long body. Maybe she was a daschund disguised as a jack ,,.

Ttyl tomorrow's Saturday. You know what that means.

Day 1102 Cleaning out

Getting ready to move shelves so a room can be painted I am going thru a box of old papers photographs for painting and sketches. Sometimes I will sit down with a pile of paper and just draw whatever I see. Less commitment with typing paper.

Bones was a sweet long haired stray cat that someone dumped in our neighborhood. Thin as a rail when I started feeding her and of course pretty soon she was in the house. Oops.

Eventually she went to live with my son in Atlanta.

Jamming herself into bookcases seems to have been her thing. Cats do the funniest things.

I should pitch these but have a feeling they are going back in the box with the photographs.

Sketched with a black Pitt pen. Love Pitt pens. They are hard to kill. Tips hold up to my hard treatment of them. The ink is India ink so it's permanent. And they just don't seem to dry up for years. I know I have some ten years old. A record I am sure for a felt tip pen. Only sharpies seem to last as long.

Day 644 – that couple at PCM

Making progress on the big painting. The guy definitely needs more work. Eek. Funny how different they look in a small photo.

No matter how many times I walked a way from it I didn’t notice it. Hmm I was tired. I think everyone in the studio had spring fever. Nobody stayed late painting like we usually do.

Colors heavy body Golden and liquitex Tutanium white, nickel Azo gold, burnt umber, napthol red, ultramarine blue, dioxzine purple, pyrrole red. Thanks for looking.

So why use artist grade besides they will last forever. The pigment load is higher.  That means you get more intense color with less paint. You can actually use more paint when you use the cheaper student grades to get the color you want and you may never get intense color.

Thanks for reading.

Day 1100 A big number!!

When I started this new blog I thought I would try to make 50 days of daily blogging and here we are at day 1100. Who knew. As Wayne Dyer said anything is possible if you do it one small piece at a time.

20 minute sketches. The last of the dr Sketchys really liked the wings. Great fun to draw. The flowers NOT so much fun to paint. Jessie was some kind of woodland fairy. I think. She held the pose rock steady for 20 minutes which after 2 1/2 hrs of paint is no easy thing to do.

Bytw I set the sketchbook up vertically while I drew and painted these. Anymore I almost can't paint or draw on a flat level
Surface. Strange but true. It feels odd. Time was short so these are all alla prima
Paintings. Love the way the darks in her legs and wings blended themselves.

Like Charles Reid says it's 50% you 50% the watercolor.

10×14 superaquabee sketch book which loves pentel brush pen and watercolor alike. Winsor Newton travel palette watercolors and all the Daniel Smith quinacridones. #10 DaVinci Kolinsky Sable.

Ttyl time to play with the grandkids. Hugs. Margaret in Atlanta xoxoxoxo

Day 1099 Moh Dr S

15 minute sketches. I think I would do better if I used a timer all the time. The mask has black wink of Stella glitter brush pen on it and the necklace gold wink of Stella.

Done in a superaquabee tablet 10×14 or 16. W pentel brush pen and winsor newton travel palette colors plus all the Daniel smith quinacridones.

Day 1098 More Dr Sketchys

Ten minutes

Five minutes

Five or Ten minutes. Add texture contest which I won. The feather is done with glitter pens.

A contest. Add a beast to a sketch. Added the Chat Noir cat. Kinda wished I hadn't. Liked it better before oh well. Always another sketch. 10 min then 10 more to add the cat. I think. Mask is done with wink of Stella glitter pens.

Day 1096 Those Dogs

Last page in this sketchbook. Hurrah. So I decided to draw another page of Zoe.

Zoe is always up for a modeling job. She's cheap. She works for treats! She is NOT good at holding a pose. Her ears are always listening. Rotating line radar to see what you are doing.

I really like the way this head turned out. Both the sketch and the watercolor.

This is my second favorite head. I was drawing fast.

I still had not filled up my pens and reached into my purse to see what I had. Pulled out a 6B Charcoal pencil and drew with it.

After I painted her I set the charcoal with fixative. So far it seems to not be smearing. Cross your fingers.

Strathmore 400 sketchbook. Colors used. Quin burnt sienna cerulean cobalt Andrews Turquoise.
