Barred rocks rock

Did I say I LOVE drawing chickens??? Worth a ride to key west to just draw chickens.

I actually followed the chickens around at the homestead in the great Smokey’s National Park to draw these Barred Rocks. Too much fun.

I used to not like chickens. That’s before I started drawing them in all their infinite variety.

And somebody please tell me why I love to draw anything and everything when I am out of town. Staring at a bulldog lamp that’s saying draw me draw me. I don’t get that at home.

Being slack

Actually packing like a maniac. Will be out of town for most of next month. 😳😳😳

Worlds longest supply list 😵😵😵

Taking a self portrait class with Myrna Wackov in Athens Wednesday-Friday. I should post the her supply list. Insanely long. As my friend Karen said it’s like a scavenger hunt finding all the stuff. A different technique each day.😵😵😵😵

Then I am racing off for two weeks in Key West. I hear you say oooo rough life. Once I get it all going it will be awesome.

Then off to DC to bury my dad in Arlington a big whoop de doo military funeral with generals and cassons and emissaries fromthe South Korean Government. Cousins coming from all over the country. Should be fascinating. Lots of sketches to come!!

In the meantime one of my fav chicken paintings ever on Yupo lovely slidey weird plastic paper. WARNING WILL SMITH WARNING. NEVER EVER touch the Yupo with your fingers. Or u get spots. Curable with alcohol. But eek. It won’t take paint there.

Love the roosters zaniness. Heading to Key West soon. Cant wait to be do some chicken chasing and some chicken painting. #keywestrooster #keywest #chicken

Day 2031 Rainy day

At chic fil a today. I stopped by for a salad and a deluge started so I decided to draw what was out their window.

I read a post at Bitter Southerner that a photographer was taking pics of what was outside at all the Waffle Houses from inside the Waffle House. I realized today you could do the same thing at restaurants like Chic Fil A so I have it a whirl.

I walked around the place looking at the views out the window. Settled on one and darned if a mother and son didn’t take it right when I started to head to the seat.

That left this view of the Mercedes dealership across the street. And duh I misspelled Mercedes. Oh well. Lettering done with a white pentel gel pen.

Day 2129 Last of the Rock Star

George. This guy was gorgeous in a black leather jacket. Did not do him justice.

Buddy Holly. Hmm they must have just done famous rock n rollers because I know he was long gone by the 80s.

Loved this girl but no idea who she was either.

Something about this one I really love. Same girls as last sketch. Because they only remained in one spot five minutes or less while continually changing poses they are all quite a challenge to draw. Ten or twelve models rotate through what was the sanctuary.

Wet Paint is always fun.

Guess I am heading home now. See ya manana. Margaret. Xoxoxo

Day 2130 Arepa Mia

The hot new spot in Atlanta. One Decatur loved to Avondale Estates. Hmm where is the other?? Sweet Auburn Market don’t you love that name??! Features Venezuelan Street food. A great backstory on how the chef started her restaurant and yes she’s from Venezuela.

Food is very similar to Mexican food except the corn tacos are fried and similar in shape to pita bread stuffed to overflowing with yumminess.

Funky like a lot of good Atlanta area Hispanic restaurants. A nice spot to chill for lunch on a 100 degree sweat dripping day. You can also eat out side if you are brave.

Tip: I made some of the people too tall in the foreground so decided to shade in the dark windows of this old building with my pen. I also knew it would make the smaller figures pop out when I did this. Then I smeared the still damp ink with a tiny bit of water on my finger tip.

Interestingly enough u can still do this long after u have drawn it without drinking. Still will smear but doesn’t appear to lift when I watercolor it which I will sooner or later. The darker/heavier the ink the darker the smear will be of course.

Day 2126 Motor Supply Bistro

In Columbia is hard to beat for food or ambience. I met my sister in law there for her belated birthday dinner.

Had delicious wild caught SC shrimp for a Sunday brunch with a bed of Anson grits and a blood orange cocktail. Think it was a martini. Did I say this place never disappoints. So yummy.

Cocktails are also interesting and off beat. Blood orange anything is hard to beat.

I was sitting in the bar area drawing this as people drifted to and fro at the bar.

Drawn with my Lamy Ef loaded w Noodlers Brown Ink. Maybe I will paint it. Maybe I won’t.

Margaret xoxoxo who has been schleepping all over town for safflower seed. Evidently the squirrels hate it. Who knew. Thanks Miss Mike for the tip. Xoxoxox

Day 2124 Across the street

Can’t decide if I like this one better painted or not. Maybe is my verdict. Painted w my tiny whiskey painters box and a waterbrush.

Lamy vista noodler eelskin Ink.

Also used my red watercolor pencil on it. Think it always perks a sketch up.

Margaret heading back to Decatur for a birthday party this weekend and a trip to the puppet show. My name is Margaret and WHERE do I live?!! Xoxoxo

Day 2123 Lazy front porch morning

Last day in Decatur being lazy on the front porch drinking tea and drawing lazy Lucy dog on the porch.

Lamy Ef to paint or not is the question.

Margaret on the last episode of stranger things. Too much excitement!! 😳😳😳😳xoxoxo

Day 2120 Hippo Hopp was hopping

Today.

We whiled away a hot summers morning at Hippo Hop. One of the first people there we were so early but gradually it filled up.

Funny what you notice about people when you draw. The lady with her phone was always on her phone with her back to the kids the whole time. I drew her twice. I never saw her with a child the whole three hours we were there.

However the nanny in the middle and the right bottom was keeping an eagle eye on her charges hovering nearby. But almost all the other parents, grandparents and nannys faces the directions of the bouncy house array so they could keep tabs on the kids. And usually a kid would show up with their adult. But not the lady on the phone. So strange.

Read an encouraging story about female impressionist painters today on my artsy.net email about Morrisot Cassatt and several other female painters. One was a great portrait painter Philadelphian artist Cecilia Beaux whom I has never heard of.

Margaret whose ready to finish Like Lions a sequel to Bull Mountain by Brian Panowich that I read a few years ago. Both great books. 1/4″ left to go. Xoxoxo

Day 2119 Van Gogh did NOT commit suicide

Auvers Van Goghs Blue Church on the hill my version

But I knew that.

Auver from the Oise River Bridge. Ravouxs Auberge (Inn) where Van Gogh died on far left

This article based on a forensic analysis of his death says otherwise.

Of course I can’t get to my sketchbook and share a map of Auvers. It’s in Augusta and I am not.

Go on a Viking Seine River cruise in the winter and they will take you to Auvers since Monets Giverny near Normandy closes in October.
